They've decided against adding new left-turn lanes at the site due to traffic congestion. A detailed traffic study has been mandated as the project moves forward.

Car Jackings On The Rise..Warning To Beach Goers

A peaceful day at Cocoa Beach turned tense when a family nearly became victims of a carjacking by two teenagers. The incident occurred in a beachside parking lot, where one teen entered the family's car from the passenger side and attempted to drive away. The car owner managed to stop the thief, but not before a second assailant joined the fray. Both were arrested by police. The event has sparked a call for increased awareness and precautions in public spaces, underscored by safety tips from former police chief Orlando Rolón.

Funding Cuts Force Volusia County Teachers into New Terrain

As the curtain falls on federal COVID-19 funds, nearly 300 Volusia County teachers are facing a game of educational musical chairs for the 2024-2025 school year. Sources reveal that these educators, previously cushioned by pandemic-era staffing boosts, are being shuffled into roles well outside their comfort zones—picture a PE teacher grappling with middle school science lessons!

Elizabeth Albert, at the helm of the Volusia United Educators, painted a grim picture of the upheaval. Teachers, thrust into alien classrooms, face steep learning curves, leaving both them and their students at a distinct disadvantage. The root of this turmoil? A bid to trim the fat as the federal money dries up, with Carl Persis, a school board stalwart, admitting that previous investments in personnel aimed at shrinking class sizes and ramping up support now require drastic rebalancing.

Amid these shifts, concerns over crammed classrooms and the potential erosion of educational quality are mounting. As the district braces for a budget reassessment come June, there's a sliver of hope that some positions might be restored. But for now, Volusia’s teachers and students are in for a bumpy ride.
