Development Poll Results

  • “We need to take into account flooding, infrastructure, and other impacts. Look at what happened to Grande Champion.”

  • “Granada Ave is a nightmare during peak travel times. Everyone coming home from work and heading up to Breakaway Trails and Timber Creek makes for unmovable backups. As a 'local' our only way around this traffic is to go onto Hand Avenue. Now you create another mega-community, expand Hand, and allow access to Granada puts the locals 'out to dry'. Then there is the environmental impact! There is no good reason to build Avalon. We don't even get any tax money out of it - just the headaches.”

  • “Development is good to a point. We have passed that point and are becoming over developed.”

  • “This has just got to stop - NOW!”

  • “New developments are not always taking in consideration of the current population and infrastructure, creating problems with flooding and overcrowding.”

  • “It’s only common sense to stop all of the overbuilding. Didn’t the resent Hurricanes teach us anything !?”

  • “Flooding caused by too much development.”

  • “The flooding and our resources are out of control. Preserve Ormond Beach Florida.”

  • “The current roads cannot handle the amount of traffic we have now!”

  • “More research should be done to solve the water run off issues that we already experience, before possibly making things worse.”

  • “We are already flooding in areas that never did before partly because of over development and partly because of climate issues. If we don't think ahead, we will have no place to live in 10-15 years as flooding will take over larger areas even during smaller rain events.”

  • “The biggest impact of this huge development (in the wetlands) will be felt in Ormond Beach not Daytona. Ormond should fight hard for NO access to SR40. Build a wall if you have to. County funding for those bridges for developer benefits is ridiculous. Impact fees should be increased 10X to pay for infrastructure.”

  • “WE ARE KILLING OUR PLANET, NO WHERE FOR WATER TO RECEED, TREES NEEDED TO SURVIVE AND WHAT ABOUT THE WILD LIFE.”

  • “Rush hour traffic is a nightmare now on 40 at Timber Creek and LPGA at Tomoka Farms Road which is where the developer wants to dump the additional traffic this development would bring.”

  • “As someone who moved to Holly Hill when I was 9 years old, Ormond Beach was a sleepy little town that everyone loved. I now live in Ormond Beach and am sickened by all of the surrounding development. Granada is already crowded and we do not need more residential communities to make a growing situation that much worse.”

  • “The recent storms and flooding says all that needs to be said. All it takes is a small storm to flood hundreds of homes throughout Volusia County.”

  • “With every new development, they continue to ruin what makes this area so appealing. At some point it just has to stop.”

  • “Just too much! And not the roads to support it.”

  • “Flooding in areas that didn't happen before, retention ponds not doing their designed purpose, animals and birds being displaced, and overwhelming traffic by overpopulation are just examples.”

  • “There are too many people here already.”

  • “Avalon Park and Ormond Crossings are 15 minute cities. This is Volusia County's and Ormond Beach's buy into the New Green Deal. You don't have to worry about roadways, they want you out of your car. Read in the Comprehensive Plans how they plan to reduce your Vehicle Miles Driven. And our wetlands don't worry the county owns 36% or the land in the county with the goal of 50% and they will protect them from keeping the taxpayers out.”

  • “Further developments are source of future flooding impacts.”

  • “Areas are flooding where it never did before. Wildlife is being displaced and going into residential areas for shelter.”

  • “It’s already out of control…not getting there!! All of this development in our area is unnecessary & horrendous!! It is ruining Ormond Beach and Volusia County, and Flagler County, too!! PLEASE STOP THE DEVELOPMENT!!!”

  • “It’s easy to say it’s out of control. But property rights matter and this particular land was zoned for this development decades ago.”

  • “Monster developments require lots of funding for improved and new roads. New schools, respite stations for Volusia County EMS services, and vehicles are also needed. Lastly, and just as important, are the new under and overpasses for our displaced native animal life. This huge financial burden should not be passed along to the county and passed on to the taxpayers.”

  • “We need the wetlands!”

  • “Flooding flooding flooding It’s only going to keep getting worse.”

  • “The roads can’t carry more.”

  • “Too much new construction and elimination of our wetlands. Somewhere in time our government officials have to realize what this is doing to our environment. Look at all of the flooding the past couple of years. Wake up!!!!!”
