9/11: Remembered - Never Forget
If you were alive on September 11, 2001 you certainly remember the unprecedented terrorist attack on New York’s Twin Towers that altered the course of history. Twenty-three years later, the nation continues to commemorate the tragic events that unfolded that morning, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost and recognizing the heroism displayed by first responders and ordinary citizens alike.
The attacks targeted the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a fourth plane that crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers valiantly thwarted its intended path to the White House. The devastation was immediate, yet the unity that followed in the days and weeks after became a lasting testament to the resilience of the American spirit.
Every year, on September 11, solemn ceremonies take place across the country, with the focal point at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in lower Manhattan. Family members of victims gather at the memorial plaza, where the names of the deceased are etched in bronze. At 8:46 a.m., the moment when the first plane struck the North Tower, a minute of silence is observed, followed by the reading of victims' names. The ritual has remained a powerful symbol of remembrance, reflecting both grief and a commitment to never forget.
This year, the ceremonies took on added significance as a new generation, born after the attacks, joined the memorials. Schools and communities nationwide have integrated 9/11 history into educational curricula, ensuring that the lessons of that fateful day endure.
As the country reflects on the horrors of 9/11, the focus remains on resilience and the resolve to prevent such tragedies in the future. The attacks left an indelible mark on American society, shaping its policies, security measures, and sense of collective identity. Yet, in remembrance, the nation also emphasizes unity, hope, and the enduring human capacity for recovery. It’s our duty to NEVER FORGET.
“No Credible Threat” as Ormond Beach Middle School Investigates Student Safety
Ormond Beach Police are investigating threats made against a small group of students at Ormond Beach Middle School, though officials have emphasized that there is no credible threat or danger to the school’s general population. The investigation began on September 7, and a temporary lockdown was enacted on September 9 as a precaution. Police are coordinating with school administrators and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to ensure student safety. A person of interest was identified early in the inquiry, and information about an 18-year-old suspect linked to threats of a mass shooting was leaked on social media. Authorities have confirmed that a confidential intelligence bulletin was improperly released but added that new, relevant information has been gathered. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are expected to provide updates as more details become available.

Premier Resorts Acquires La Playa Inn; Future Still Undecided
Photo: Thomas Cook
The long-neglected La Playa Inn in Daytona Beach has been sold once again, this time to Premier Resorts & Management (PRM Hotels), fueling hopes that the dilapidated property will either be restored or demolished. PRM, known for managing several hotels in the area, purchased the oceanfront building for $11.75 million, less than its previous sale price in 2019. Once a bustling beachfront hotel, La Playa closed in 2016 after sustaining damage during Hurricane Matthew. Since then, efforts to repair the structure have stalled, leading to further decay and its condemnation by the city in September 2023. PRM’s focus is currently on completing another hotel project in Daytona Beach, with plans for La Playa’s future likely taking shape next year.
