🛒 Aldi Drops Prices as Summer Heats Up

Looking to stretch your grocery dollars? Aldi is here to help. The discount chain just announced its annual summer price drop — this time slashing costs on over 400 items through Labor Day. With cuts of up to 33% on essentials like meat and produce, shoppers can enjoy more savings while keeping backyard BBQs and beach picnics going strong. Plus, Aldi is expanding in Florida, opening 18 new stores as part of a five-year plan. With their cart-for-a-quarter model and no-frills setup, Aldi’s simplicity is paying off — and passing the savings on to customers.

🎉 A Milestone for Five Remarkable Young Women

At the Pace Center for Girls Volusia-Flagler, graduation is more than a ceremony — it's a hard-earned triumph. On June 6, five resilient students — Gabriel Crowell, Ta'Tyana Hampton, Zoe Ryan, Jordan Stoner, and Alexis Williams — were honored at Lighthouse Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach. Each overcame personal and academic hurdles to walk the stage, proving doubters wrong. Scholarships and laptops sweetened the celebration, with awards from State Farm, AT&T, VyStar, and the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce. As tassels moved from right to left, Pace Academic Manager Lorna Papke-Dupouy summed up the spirit of the day: this is just one of many future victories.

🧨 Local Proud Boys Leader Sues Feds for $100M

Joseph Biggs, a Volusia County Proud Boys leader whose prison sentence related to the January 6 Capitol riot was commuted by President Trump, is now suing the U.S. government. Alongside four others, Biggs claims the DOJ and FBI violated their rights during their arrests and imprisonment. The lawsuit cites solitary confinement, lack of medical care, and forceful raids despite voluntary surrender. Biggs, convicted of seditious conspiracy, was a key figure in the attack on the Capitol, prosecutors said. His new legal push — seeking over $100 million — reopens a polarizing chapter in American politics.

🌊 The Surf Scene That Never Skips a Beat

While New Smyrna Beach often grabs headlines for its wave riders, it's Daytona Beach and Flagler that quietly power the heart of Florida’s surf culture. Locals like Caleb Johnston, who’s been catching waves since age 6, say the consistency of the surf along this stretch is unmatched — a reputation built not on hype, but on everyday rhythm.

The secret? Sandbars. Long and shallow, they help produce surfable waves year-round — a dream scenario for beginners and seasoned riders alike.

Marcie Baldwin, a lifelong surfer and instructor, says the community is what truly sets this coastal culture apart. From casual riders to competitive athletes, everyone is welcome in the lineup. "It's all-encompassing," she says. “Whether you surf or not, you’re part of it.” And while the perfect wave might not roll in every day, the laid-back, wave-chasing lifestyle remains a reliable part of life on Florida's Atlantic edge.
