🚓 Caught in the Act: FCSO Arrests Four Unlicensed Contractors
Flagler County’s finest have been busy. Following an undercover operation that kicked off in August, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) arrested four individuals for operating as unlicensed contractors—a charge that could bring both financial penalties and legal headaches.
The sting was prompted by a flurry of complaints to local and state agencies about suspicious contracting activities. The FCSO’s General Assignment Unit dug into 45 potential cases, ultimately setting up fake job scenarios. Of the 19 contractors who took the bait, seven met with undercover detectives, and four of those ended up in handcuffs.
The suspects—ranging in age from 30 to 68 and hailing from Palm Coast, DeLand, Jacksonville, and beyond—allegedly offered electrical and construction services without the required licenses. Two were charged with unregistered electrical contracting, while one was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement after his arrest.
“This sends a strong message that illegal contracting won’t be tolerated,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. Homeowners are encouraged to verify any contractor’s credentials to avoid jeopardizing their insurance or property value.

🗣️ Your Voice, Their Blueprint: Volusia Launches Charter Review
Over in Volusia County, local leaders are flipping the script—literally. The county's Charter Review Commission is asking residents to chime in on how the county should be governed for the next decade.
This citizen-led group meets every ten years to propose updates to the County Charter, which functions as the local government's constitution. Their first meeting, held on Sept. 3 at the Daytona Beach International Airport, marked the official start of an eight-month process of discussion, feedback, and drafting.
Attorney Mark Watts was unanimously chosen as chairman, despite noting that his work representing developers could raise eyebrows. Still, his peers vouched for his integrity and community-first mindset. Former County Councilwoman Pat Northey was elected vice chairwoman.
The commission’s regular meetings will run through May 2026, and they’re inviting the public to participate during every session. The first listening session for public input is scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Ormond Beach Regional Library.
