⛽ Gas Prices Climb Across Volusia County
Meanwhile, drivers in the Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach area are feeling pressure at the pump.
Gas prices across Florida have risen for seven straight days, with the statewide average for regular reaching $3.494 per gallon Monday, according to AAA. Prices have climbed more than 60 cents since late February amid global oil market volatility tied to the ongoing Iran conflict.
While the story is statewide, local motorists are seeing similar trends. In nearby metro areas such as Orlando, prices jumped to $3.556 per gallon, and analysts warn additional increases of 20 to 50 cents could arrive in the coming days. Some industry experts now say there is a strong likelihood national averages could approach $4 per gallon within the next month if tensions continue.
Despite the increases, AAA officials emphasize there is no fuel shortage. Refineries are operating normally, and supplies remain steady. The higher prices reflect rising global oil costs rather than disruptions to availability.
For commuters traveling along Interstate 95 or A1A each day, it may be time to budget a little extra for fill-ups.

🛹 Sidewalk Spat Ends in Damaged Skateboard
A neighborhood disagreement in Ormond Beach escalated quickly when a speeding pickup truck allegedly ran over a skateboard after a brief exchange of words.
According to a police report, three young adults were walking home on a residential street when a pickup sped past them. The group told the driver to slow down. In response, the driver reportedly yelled profanities and drove over a skateboard that had been left about 30 feet away in the road.
The 23-year-old owner of the skateboard told police he wanted to pursue charges. Officers later located the board and noted a minor crack in the center, along with what the report described as “extensive prior damage.” Authorities also observed no signs of aggressive driving on nearby grass.
Ultimately, no charges were filed.
While the damage appeared limited, the incident serves as a reminder that even brief roadside exchanges can escalate quickly. In residential neighborhoods across Ormond Beach, patience behind the wheel goes a long way.

💼 Restaurant Owner Reports Missing Payroll Taxes
In a separate incident, a local restaurant owner contacted police after receiving an unwelcome notice from the IRS: more than $41,000 in delinquent payroll taxes dating back to the first quarter of 2025.
According to the incident report, the owner said he had worked with the same accountant for about 10 years, forwarding payroll tax funds to her for submission to the IRS. After receiving the notice, he attempted multiple times to reach the accountant, reportedly receiving responses that she was unavailable or “in a meeting.”
The report states he later received an email from the accountant indicating it was her intention “to get this paid.”
Police are continuing to investigate.
For small business owners in the Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach area, the case underscores the importance of closely monitoring tax filings and confirmations—even when working with long-trusted professionals. With payroll taxes carrying significant penalties, timely oversight can make all the difference.

🍝 Little Italy’s Ristorante Moves to Ormond, Dino’s Opens in Daytona
To end on a flavorful note, a longtime Beach Street favorite is making a move north.
After five years in Daytona Beach, Little Italy’s Ristorante is relocating to 814 S. Atlantic Ave. in Ormond Beach. The new space—formerly home to Dalmare Italian Chophouse—offers more than 5,600 square feet, including expanded dining, bar space and a covered outdoor patio.
Owner Mario Recupido shared on social media that the team has been busy packing, moving and preparing for a soft opening, teasing additions to the already popular menu of pizzas, subs, wings and gelato. Hiring wrapped up in late February to staff the larger location, with a tentative opening planned for the week of March 6.
At the same time, Recupido has launched a second concept, Dino’s Bar & Grill, at 145 Orange Ave. in Daytona Beach, adding yet another dining option downtown.
For local food fans, it’s a win-win: more room in Ormond Beach and a brand-new gathering spot in Daytona.

J and J Gutters and Roofing

J & J Gutters & Roofing has been part of the Ormond Beach home-improvement landscape for three decades—and their story is exactly what many homeowners hope to find: a local, family-built company that still believes the best marketing is doing the job right.
The business was founded in 1995 by Joe Juhasz’s father, and Joe has been around it since he was a teenager. He began working in the company at about 15, learning the trade hands-on, and over the years he and his wife, Nikki, have stepped into the day-to-day leadership of the operation. That long runway matters. In an industry where trust can feel hard to come by, J & J’s staying power is one of the clearest signals that they’ve built their name the old-fashioned way—through consistency, craftsmanship, and follow-through.

Originally known for seamless gutters, the company grew steadily into related exterior systems: soffit, fascia, and screen rooms—core components that protect a home from Florida’s sun, storms, and heavy runoff. As demand expanded, so did their capabilities. After obtaining a roofing license, the business added roofing services across major roof types including shingle, tile, and metal. Today, as a licensed general contractor as well, they also handle comprehensive exterior work, supported by a general contracting background in the family—work that can range from siding projects to major remodels, and even full home construction.
What really stands out is how they approach reputation. Joe says most of their work comes from word-of-mouth referrals and repeat relationships with other contractors who bring them larger projects—an earned position that only happens when you consistently deliver. And when things aren’t perfect, their philosophy is simple: Make It Right. They noted that small fixes or simple add-ons are often handled without nickel-and-diming the customer, and if something needs attention, they stand behind their work with strong workmanship warranties—typically five years on most items and up to ten years on some.

Their most in-demand service right now? Standing seam metal roofing. With their own on-site panel machine, they can produce roof panels right at the job, and they’ve seen many homeowners switch from asphalt shingles to standing seam for longevity and leak resistance—often as a proactive move in response to insurance pressure on older shingle roofs.

Joe Juhasz - Owner
For homeowners, Joe’s guidance is practical: work with a licensed and insured contractor, and choose someone who looks at the whole “water management system”—roofing, soffit, fascia, and gutters—because protecting your home starts with where the water goes.
