Hunter’s Ridge Lawsuit Concluded with Settlement Agreement
The lawsuit between Ormond Beach, Flagler County, and Hunter’s Ridge developer U.S. Capital Alliance, LLC has been settled. The agreement resolves issues related to the developer’s noncompliance with the Hunter’s Ridge DRI, including the return of a road easement to the developer and the transfer of conservation lands to the city. An interlocal agreement will allow Flagler County limited use of the 40 Grade road. The settlement will result in the dismissal of pending litigation and a resolution to rescind the noncompliance determination will be considered by the City Commission on August 20.

Volusia Expands Regrow the Loop Initiative Countywide After Pilot Success
Volusia County's Regrow the Loop initiative, which aimed to improve the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail by removing invasive species and enhancing native vegetation, is set to expand countywide. The pilot program, which began in June 2023, was deemed successful, with 135 trees planted and substantial community engagement. The expansion will be supported by a $10,000 grant and will involve a competitive application process for nonprofits and other groups. The county council's decision reflects positive feedback and aims to replicate the program’s success across Volusia County.

Essential Nutrients to Monitor While Using GLP-1 Medications LIke Wegovy and Zepbound
GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound, are well-regarded for their effectiveness in weight loss. However, they can lead to nutrient deficiencies due to reduced food intake and possible gastrointestinal side effects like vomiting and diarrhea. Here are five common deficiencies to watch for and strategies to address them:
Protein: Inadequate protein intake can lead to loss of lean body mass, weakness, and other issues. The Dietary Guidelines recommend about 50 grams of protein daily for most adults, with higher needs (60-75 grams) for those with obesity or undergoing bariatric surgery. Foods rich in protein include eggs, nuts, chicken breast, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and lentils.
Vitamin D: Essential for bone health, vitamin D deficiency can cause muscle pain, weakness, and bone discomfort. Adults need 600 IU per day. Sources include fatty fish (like salmon and tuna), beef liver, egg yolks, cheese, and fortified milk.
Calcium: Vital for muscle function, nerve communication, and blood circulation, calcium requirements are about 1,000 to 1,200 mg daily. Good sources are dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese. For those avoiding dairy, alternatives include tofu, soymilk, broccoli, and fortified orange juice.
Iron: Iron is crucial for transporting oxygen in the blood. Low iron levels can cause fatigue and anemia. Rich sources include red meat, poultry, beans, and fortified cereals.
Vitamin B12: Necessary for red blood cell formation and neurological function, vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to fatigue and neurological problems. It is primarily found in animal products like meat, dairy, and eggs, as well as fortified plant-based foods.
Managing these deficiencies involves ensuring a balanced diet rich in these nutrients and considering supplements if necessary. Consulting with a healthcare provider can also help tailor dietary needs based on individual health conditions and medication effects.
