🗳️ Local Businessman Enters Ormond Beach Commission Race
William Sanchez, an Ormond Beach entrepreneur and community leader, is stepping into the political ring. On August 18, Sanchez officially filed to run for the Zone 3 seat on the Ormond Beach City Commission, currently held by Kristin Deaton.
Known for organizing the International Day Festival and heading Solidus Communications Inc., Sanchez brings with him a strong background in business and civic engagement. He's served on several local boards, including the Cultural Council of Volusia County and the Volusia County Business Incubator. This will be his first time running for office, but political science has long been a personal passion.
Sanchez is campaigning on a platform of preserving Ormond’s quality of life while helping the city navigate growth, flooding, and homelessness challenges. He believes his business acumen will bring a fresh, analytical perspective to the commission, especially regarding contracts and budgeting.
“I want what’s best for the city,” Sanchez said. “At the end of the day, it’s about doing what’s right and what’s best for each and every one of us.”

💰 Volusia Schools Approve Raises for Non-Bargaining Staff
Some well-deserved good news for Volusia County Schools’ non-bargaining employees: a 2% pay raise is coming their way for the 2025-26 school year. Approved at the Sept. 9 School Board meeting, the raise applies to a broad range of roles — from nurses and interpreters to custodians and bus drivers.
In addition to the 2% bump, Transportation Department staff will benefit from salary compression adjustments, adding $0.25 per hour for each year of service. For example, a ten-year employee will see a $2.50 hourly increase.
These pay enhancements will show up in the Oct. 15 paycheck, with retroactive payments to follow. The district is still negotiating raises for teachers and paraprofessionals under the VUE Instructional and Support umbrellas.
It’s a move aimed at retention, fairness, and showing appreciation to employees who keep the wheels of the school system turning — literally and figuratively.

🤖 AdventHealth Expands Robotic Knee Surgery Options
Knee surgery is getting a high-tech upgrade in Volusia County, thanks to AdventHealth’s rollout of the VELYS robotic-assisted system. Patients can now access this advanced procedure at four local locations, including Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Orange City.
Over 200 surgeries have already been performed using VELYS, which provides real-time imaging and ultra-precise alignment. The result? Quicker recovery, better joint comfort, and more personalized treatment. The system also enhances soft tissue balancing — a critical component in making new joints feel like the real deal.
Even better, patients now have options: choose between a hospital stay or a same-day procedure at an outpatient surgery center. AdventHealth’s expansion reflects a growing trend in making cutting-edge care more accessible — no need to travel far for top-notch treatment.

These sessions give residents a rare chance to talk directly with Charter Review Commission members — and influence how the county government operates in the future.
Can’t make it in person? No problem. You can still submit your comments online by emailing [email protected]. You can also review the current charter and stay updated on future meetings at volusia.org/charter-review.
