November 3 Weather Update.

Yesterday, the skies took on a cloudy demeanor, and today, these overcast conditions continue to prevail.

Despite the persistent cloud cover, temperatures are not expected to drop as drastically, thanks to the onshore flow.

Today, we anticipate Partly cloudy skies with scattered showers likely throughout the day. Rain chances are pegged at 20%, and daytime highs will reach the mid 70s.

As we transition into the weekend, showers will gradually wane, giving way to more seasonal temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. So, while the cloud cover lingers, the promise of milder weather is a welcome change in the forecast.

Ormond Beach Downtown to Showcase Local Artistry in Unique Cabinet Wraps

Example Wrap

The Ormond Beach Arts District is hoping to soon enliven the downtown area with 11 traffic signal and streetlight cabinet box wraps adorned with local artists' works. This project, in the making for three years, awaits approval from the Florida Department of Transportation and the Ormond Beach City Commission. The initiative aims to promote public art, with local artists donating their work. The wraps are expected to refresh every three years, offering pedestrians a dynamic visual experience and spurring pedestrian activity. The project represents a collaborative effort between the Ormond Beach Arts District and the city, with plans to expand the downtown mural program in the future.

Man Walks Into Bar With Loaded Gun

A Florida man was arrested after he was found openly carrying a loaded gun at a DeLand hotspot, according to police. Michael Ribar was arrested and charged with two counts of open carrying of weapons after concerned citizens alerted deputies to Cafe DaVinci just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The 22-year-old man allegedly had a visible handgun on his right hip, a black 9mm handgun with three loaded magazines, according to the DeLand Police Department. He was also wearing a bulletproof vest and a tactical belt with two handcuffs, a baton and medical kit.

Daytona Beach Shuts Down Two Churches' Food Pantries

Daytona Beach authorities have ordered the closure of two well-established food pantries run by First Christian Church and Seventh Day Baptist Church. These pantries, serving the community for over a decade, have been deemed in violation of a city ordinance.

The city's enforcement officials delivered the closure orders during a food drive at First Christian Church, citing a violation of an ordinance prohibiting food pantries in redevelopment areas, where both churches are located.

Despite arguments that their long-standing presence should exempt them from the ordinance, church leaders are left in a challenging position. Donna Marie Burcham, a regular visitor to First Christian Church's pantry, highlighted the significant assistance these pantries provide, from hygiene items to fresh food and milk, for those with limited incomes.

City officials indicated that concerns raised by residents and business owners about loitering and traffic problems near these churches prompted their actions.

The closures have stirred a sense of unease among community members who have come to rely on these food pantries, leaving many wondering where they will turn for support in the future.
