Sunny Today, Mid 70’s

Monday is expected to offer pleasant weather with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, consistent with the seasonal average. Overnight, inland areas will experience lows in the 40s, while coastal regions will see lows in the low 50s due to a prevailing dry air mass. Rip current risk remains a concern at our local beaches, with waves reaching 5-7 feet, and a coastal flood advisory extends through Tuesday morning. Winds from the northeast are anticipated at 5-10 MPH.

Throughout the rest of the week, dry conditions will persist, and temperatures will gradually rise, reaching the low to mid 80s by the week's conclusion. However, a cold front is anticipated to move through the area late Friday into Saturday, introducing the possibility of rain.

Ormond Beach Man Arrested After Wild High-Speed Chase in 18-Wheeler Across Texas Counties

Christopher John Lubowski, a 51-year-old man from Ormond Beach, found himself in a precarious situation when he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Texas in an 18-wheeler truck. The pursuit, which lasted for over two and a half hours, covered multiple counties and involved various law enforcement agencies.

The incident began around 1.45pm on a Saturday when the Roman Forest Police Department responded to reports of reckless driving. Officers followed the big rig as it sped down Highway 59 in Montgomery County. Along the way, the truck recklessly swerved towards oncoming vehicles, leading to a collision with Gean Fernandez's car. Fernandez described the experience as terrifying, with the truck approaching at an alarming speed.

The chase continued as the semi-truck exited the interstate, ignoring traffic lights and even driving over road medians. At one point, it ventured onto a dirt road, plowing through acres of farmland, and creating a cloud of dust as police pursued it.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including those from Montgomery, Harris, and Fort Bend Counties, were involved in the pursuit. The collaboration of several Houston-area agencies, including the Houston Police Department and the Department of Public Safety, was essential to bring the chase to an end. Tactical forces and aviation units were also deployed.

The climax of the chase occurred when the truck was forced to stop in the city of Fulshear. Law enforcement officers shot the tires off the truck to immobilize it. Witnesses in the area reported seeing deputies with guns drawn, highlighting the intensity of the situation.

Christopher John Lubowski now faces two felony charges: evading arrest (a third-degree felony) and possession of a controlled substance (a second-degree felony). The substance in question is believed to be methamphetamine, although confirmation is pending. Lubowski was booked into the Montgomery County Sheriff Office's jail.

Florida Strengthens Public-Safety Net After FBI Flags Rising Terror Risks

In a coordinated response to heightened national security alerts, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody convened with state and local enforcement agencies Thursday in Boynton Beach for a classified briefing on the state's security measures. The assembly was in direct reaction to the stark warning from FBI Director Christopher Wray to Congress about the escalating threat level of terrorist attacks on American soil.

Post-briefing, Moody stepped forward to emphasize the crucial role of the community in these vigilant times. She underscored the pertinence of public awareness and proactive reporting in the face of the looming threats, particularly in light of the intensifying conflict in Israel. With the state's security apparatus on high alert, Moody's message to citizens was unequivocal: remain observant and report any unusual or suspicious activity through the established hotline, 855-FLA-SAFE. This call-to-action aligns with the nationwide "See Something, Say Something" campaign, aiming to fortify community-law enforcement collaboration against potential threats.

Don't Let the Time Change Ruff Up Your Dog's Routine

As the clocks fall back with the end of Daylight Saving Time, our canine companions may find their routines out of sync with ours. Dogs, driven by their internal circadian rhythms, often follow a strict schedule for activities such as going outside for a bathroom break, eating, and waiting for their owners to return home. The sudden shift in time can cause confusion and stress for pets, leading to accidents indoors, increased anxiety, and behavioral issues.

Owners can mitigate these issues by gradually adjusting their dog's routines in the lead-up to the time change. Shifting walk and feeding times by a few minutes each day can help. Additionally, being aware of the extra stress the time change may cause your pet, and offering comfort and patience, can make the transition smoother. As we enjoy an extra hour of sleep, ensuring our pets adjust comfortably to the new schedule will help make the end of Daylight Saving Time easier for everyone.
