Fog Early, Then Clear and Sunny

Expect a cool start to your Tuesday with areas of fog ranging from light to thick, which will give way to clear, sunny conditions and a pleasantly warm afternoon. The upcoming week is set to be mild, with a small possibility of rain over the weekend.

For Tuesday, anticipate bright, sunny weather post-foggy morning, with early temperatures hovering in the high 40s to low 50s. The day will warm up to peak temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s. Expect a gentle breeze shifting from northwest to southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Looking forward: Prepare for a week characterized by warmth, with a minor likelihood of showers making an appearance as the weekend approaches.

Ormond Beach Fuel Terminal Faces Hurdles as County Seeks Solutions

In a bid to prevent the construction of a large fuel terminal in Ormond Beach, Volusia County Council members are considering two potential resolutions. The council will deliberate on whether to lease the Hull Road land or transfer its jurisdiction to the city in their upcoming Tuesday meeting.

The proposals emerged as a reaction to the constraints imposed by Senate Bill 250, a new state law that restricts the county's ability to alter land use policies until October. This law has suspended regulatory powers in regions extending 100 miles from the impact zones of hurricanes Ian and Nicole.

Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington has expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of these proposals, suggesting that such a transfer might invite further legal challenges. He pointed out that the transfer does not circumvent the potential for Burt Harris or Senate Bill 250 claims, as the land would retain its existing entitlements and conditions.

Volusia County Council Chair Jeff Brower, who initially supported the idea under the impression that Ormond Beach was not subject to Senate Bill 250's stipulations, has acknowledged the city's disapproval and expressed his openness to other solutions. Brower emphasized the shared goal of ensuring fuel resilience and availability for Floridians, but not at the cost of the community's well-being.

The meeting will be held at 9am at the county chambers in Deland

Tomoka Reserve Developers Present Revised Plan to Ormond Commission

Developers have submitted a revised plan for the Tomoka Reserve project, which is up for a vote by the Ormond Beach City Commission. The updated proposal reduces the number of homes to 272 and increases the buffer zones following input from the community and criticism from the Ormond Beach Planning Board. The board has recommended further reductions in the number of homes and expressed concerns over traffic and maintenance of the buffer zones. The developers, local stakeholders with a history of investment in the area, have emphasized their commitment to using native, low-maintenance vegetation for the project. The Ormond Beach City Commission will meet at 6pm at the Calvary Christian Center - 1687 W. Grenada Blvd, Ormond Beach to discuss the proposal.

Florida Gas Prices Hit New Low for 2023, AAA Reports

The latest AAA report indicates a significant drop in Florida's average gas prices, reaching a new low for the year at $3.17 per gallon. This figure not only dips below the previous low set in March but also shows a considerable decrease from last week and a substantial 68-cent drop from the year's peak price in August. The decline is attributed to reduced driving demand, increased gasoline supplies, and decreasing oil prices. While some Florida cities see prices under $3, the state remains cheaper than the national average but slightly higher than neighboring Georgia. In our area, the most affordable gas can be found at Buc-ee's and Sam's Club which were $2.96 as of this writing.
