Monday morning may see extensive areas of thick, patchy fog, with temperatures overnight dropping to the high 50s and 60s. There's a small possibility of rain as an easterly wind develops, blowing at speeds of 5-10 MPH. During the afternoon, temperatures are expected to climb to the mid to upper 70s under predominantly sunny skies.

LOOKING AHEAD FOR THE WEEK: A cold front is anticipated to move through the region by Tuesday night, which could heighten the likelihood of rain from Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

For Thanksgiving Day, the forecast is promising, with mostly clear conditions and high temperatures reaching the upper 60s!

Coastal hazards include tidal flooding, rough surf, and rip currents.

Halifax Health Expands Lung Cancer Services in Line with New ACS Guidelines

Halifax Health has broadened its lung cancer diagnostic and treatment services at the Charles L and Miki N Grant Cancer Center for Hope, following the American Cancer Society's updated screening guidelines. These new guidelines have significantly expanded the eligibility for lung cancer screenings, now including individuals aged 50 to 80 with a 20 pack-year smoking history, a change from the previous 55 to 74 age range and 30 pack-year history. This expansion could potentially benefit nearly 5 million additional people. Dr. Steve Miles from Halifax Health highlighted the importance of early detection in lung cancer treatment and the center's dedication to providing accessible screening services.

Steam Power and Speed: Ormond Beach Commemorates a Century of Racing

Over 20 years ago, the City of Ormond Beach and the Motor Racing Heritage Association began commemorating the centennial of the first beach races, pivotal in making the area a racing hub. The first event in 2003 showcased antique race cars, including a replica of the Olds Pirate. The narrator, serving as the race director and car curator, was particularly impressed by the steam-powered cars, leading to a focus on the Stanley Rocket's centennial. With the help of Brent Campbell, they restored a replica of the Stanley Rocket, which had been inactive for over 30 years. The steam centennial event was a significant success, featuring 60 steamers and attracting celebrities like Jay Leno, thanks to the support of individuals like Dr. Fred Costello, the then-mayor.

The following Thanksgiving schedules will be in effect:

Effective Thanksgiving Day the altered route and service times are as follows:

East Volusia:

Routes 1, 3, 4, 10, 15, and 17 will follow a regular Sunday schedule, operating from the Intermodal Transit Facility at the Ocean Center Parking Garage.

Routes 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 18, 19, and 60 will not be in service.

Waste Pro will not run on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2023. Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, November 24, 2023, and Friday routes will be collected on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Holiday Store Closing Schedules

CLOSED


Contrary to last year, most Walgreens stores will be closed this Thanksgiving.

Other stores such as Publix, Aldi, Costco, BJ's Wholesale Club, Sam's Club, Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Target will all be closed.

Dicks Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Kohls, and Macy's will be closed on Thanksgiving also.

OPEN

Rest assured you'll still be able to grab your favorite gingerbread latte because Starbucks will also be open on Thanksgiving. Retail stores such as CVS and Dollar General will remain open on Thanksgiving.
