Ormond Beach Historic Landmark Preservation Board Considers Church Roof Options

The Ormond Beach Historic Landmark Preservation Board is considering the roof for the historic Pilgrims Rest Church, which was rejected by the City Commission after a bid was rejected. The board believes a cedar roof, or lookalike, would maintain the church's historic character, as it dates back to the 1870s. The board was presented with four roof material options: Cedar shake, composite cedar shake (made from polyurethane), metal, or asphalt shingles. The board has concerns about the long-term maintenance of a metal roof, and if the commission decides against a cedar shake roof, a composite cedar shake roof would be preferred.

Smishing: Package Tracking Scams

Have you received unsolicited mobile text messages or an email with an unfamiliar or strange web link that indicates a USPS delivery requires a response from you? If you never signed up for a USPS tracking request for a specific package, then don’t click the link! This type of text message is a scam called smishing.

Smishing is a form of phishing that involves a text message or phone number, or possibly an email. Victims will typically receive a deceptive text message that is intended to lure the recipient into providing their personal or financial information. These scammers often attempt to disguise themselves as a government agency, bank, or other company to lend legitimacy to their claims. USPS utilizes the 5-digit short codes to send and receive SMS to and from mobile phones.

The criminals want to receive personally identifiable information (PII) about the victim such as: account usernames and passwords, Social Security number, date of birth, credit and debit card numbers, personal identification numbers (PINs), or other sensitive information. This information is used to carry out other crimes, such as financial fraud.

The Postal Service offers free tools to track specific packages, but customers are required to either register online, or initiate a text message, and provide a tracking number. USPS does not charge for these services! USPS will not send customers text messages or e-mails without a customer first requesting the service with a tracking number, and it will NOT contain a link. So, if you did not initiate the tracking request for a specific package directly from USPS and it contains a link: don’t click the link!

If you suspect the text message you have received is suspicious but are expecting a parcel, please do not click on any links. Rather, report it and visit USPS.com from your mobile device or computer for tracking and additional resources. Click the link below to find resources for reporting such messages.

The following Thanksgiving schedules will be in effect:

Effective Thanksgiving Day the altered route and service times are as follows:

East Volusia:

Routes 1, 3, 4, 10, 15, and 17 will follow a regular Sunday schedule, operating from the Intermodal Transit Facility at the Ocean Center Parking Garage.

Routes 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 18, 19, and 60 will not be in service.

Waste Pro will not run on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2023. Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, November 24, 2023, and Friday routes will be collected on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Holiday Store Closing Schedules

CLOSED


Contrary to last year, most Walgreens stores will be closed this Thanksgiving.

Other stores such as Publix, Aldi, Costco, BJ's Wholesale Club, Sam's Club, Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Target will all be closed.

Dicks Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Kohls, and Macy's will be closed on Thanksgiving also.

OPEN

Rest assured you'll still be able to grab your favorite gingerbread latte because Starbucks will also be open on Thanksgiving. Retail stores such as CVS and Dollar General will remain open on Thanksgiving.
