Avelo Airlines Has Announced A Temporary Suspension of Flights to Wilmington, Delaware

Avelo Airlines has announced a temporary suspension of its flights from Daytona Beach International Airport to Wilmington, Delaware, from January 6 throuh March 6. The service is scheduled to resume on March 7, as indicated on the airline's online booking platform. Meanwhile, flights from Daytona Beach International Airport to New Haven, Connecticut, will continue without interruption. For the most current information and any further changes, passengers are advised to regularly check Avelo Airlines' official website.

Florida's HB 599 proposes to prohibit preferred gender pronouns in state entities

Florida's HB 599, sponsored by Republican Ryan Chamberlin, proposes to prohibit state and local governments, and related contractors and nonprofits, from acknowledging employees' preferred gender pronouns if they conflict with their biological sex. The Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus has criticized the bill, viewing it as an extension of Governor DeSantis's conservative stance on transgender issues. The bill, part of a series of measures targeting the transgender community, also includes provisions protecting employees' religious or biology-based beliefs regarding sexuality and gender identity.

Cantaloupe Recall Grows as Salmonella Infections Spread Across the U.S

The United States is grappling with an expanding health crisis as the number of salmonella cases linked to contaminated cantaloupes has more than doubled this week. U.S. health officials, in response to the growing outbreak, have extended their recall to include three additional brands of whole and pre-cut cantaloupes.

Sources indicate that nearly 100 individuals across 32 states have fallen ill due to the tainted fruit, with Arizona, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio reporting the highest number of cases. Tragically, two fatalities have been reported in Minnesota, and nationwide hospitalizations have risen to 45.

Initially, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recall encompassed Malichita brand whole cantaloupes, Vinyard brand pre-cut cantaloupes, and ALDI's range of whole and pre-cut fruit products. As of Friday, the recall has been expanded to include Rudy brand whole cantaloupes and pre-cut cantaloupes under the Freshness Guaranteed and RaceTrac brands.

Health authorities are advising consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products to dispose of them immediately. They also recommend thorough cleaning of any surfaces that may have come into contact with the contaminated fruits, using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher.

Salmonella infection typically manifests as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, appearing within six hours to six days after consuming the affected food. While most cases resolve within a week, the illness can be particularly severe in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, potentially necessitating medical attention or hospitalization.

Truck Fire on I-95 Near LPGA Exit Northbound

Early Saturday morning, a tractor-trailer caught fire on I-95 near the 265 NB (LPGA Blvd) area, leading to the temporary blockage of two right lanes. The driver, who was transporting produce from Plant City to Jacksonville, managed to disconnect from the trailer prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The fire was successfully extinguished, and the contents of the trailer were doused with foam to prevent any reignition. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident.
