Update On Thursday’s “Controlled” Burn off SR 40
The “controlled burn” was conducted by Gold Coast Land Management, LLC in Daytona Beach went awry when it breached containment lines, threatening homes and causing significant concern among residents.
The incident, which occurred under windy conditions with gusts approaching 30mph, raised questions about the decision-making process behind the burn's timing. While the Florida Forest Service was responsible for issuing the burn permit, they identified Gold Coast as the executing contractor, which had been informed of the day's wind forecast by the National Weather Service.
Despite this, the burn proceeded, leading to a brush fire that neared the Latitude Margaritaville community. The Daytona Beach Fire Department, alongside the Florida Forest Service, mobilized to protect the threatened homes, highlighting the challenges and dangers of conducting controlled burns in less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Ivan Lendl, the tennis legend known for his formidable presence on the court, has now turned his competitive spirit to pickleball, participating in the AARP U.S. Champions Cup at Pictona at Holly Hill. Lendl, who boasts a career highlighted by 94 singles titles and eight major tournament victories, is among the roughly 500 competitors aged 50 and above, showcasing the sport's growing appeal among former professional athletes and enthusiasts alike.
Pickleball, a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, has seen a surge in popularity, particularly among older adults seeking a less physically demanding alternative to tennis. Chuck Jacobs, a 50-year-old former college tennis player from Satellite Beach, is one such enthusiast who has embraced pickleball for its fast-paced nature and reduced impact on the body. Jacobs, who aspires to turn professional, praised the sport for its social benefits and the unique opportunity it provides to interact with sports legends like Lendl.
The AARP U.S. Champions Cup, sanctioned by the Association of Pickleball Players (APP), is part of the national APP Tour and features the largest senior pro purse in the tour's history, with $75,000 awarded to winners in the Champion (50+) and Masters (60+) professional divisions. The tournament has attracted players from 38 states, emphasizing pickleball's role in fostering social interaction, stress relief, and physical and mental health, aligning with AARP's six pillars for brain health.
For many participants, pickleball has been transformative, offering a blend of competitive play and community. Kara Neal, a 54-year-old pediatric nurse from Jacksonville, and J.D. Ross, a 57-year-old former college tennis player from Fort Mill, South Carolina, both shared how the sport has positively impacted their lives, highlighting its accessibility and the joy it brings to players of all ages and skill levels.
Here Are The Results Of The “Form 6” Poll
Recent changes in Florida Law requires certain elected public servants to file “Form 6” listing all assets over $1000. Here are the results and some comments. The overwhelming votes approved of the new law:
And here are some of you comments:
“Politicians should not come into office with nothing and stay in office for years and retire as millionaires. The salaries make that impossible... unless they are corrupt. Kudos to FL for finally helping to fight political corruption. Now they need to ge to work on term limits.”
“This is a typical similar Mickey Mouse overreach by the Florida Governor! ... THAT MEANS THAT YOU HAVE TO REPORT yr. BIG SCREEN TV, yr. RIDING LAWNMOVER, yr. BEATUTIFUL NEW SOFA, yr E-BIKE, yr. SAMSUNG/APPLE CELL PHONE etc. etc. ... come on, this is absolutely insane!!! The previous $10,000 limit is more than adequate!”
“If full disclosure is required by the average citizen for any large purchase or credit check then why wouldn’t an elected official who is employed by citizens complain about full disclosure???”
“I put myself in "their" shoes. I ask what difference will it make going from $10,000 down to $1,000.00. None that will hold any benefit in my view. Let's face it in today's market, $10,000.00 doesn't hold a BIG value. That amount doesn't even buy you a new car.”
“If you are an honest and law-abiding citizen who serves your community, I don't believe that should be a problem. Many politicians had become rich, from Presidents of the US to elected officials in small communities. It is human nature to take advantage of the situations in which you can have financial gain, yes, I think the law is good.”
🤣🤣🤣 Today's Meme 🤣🤣🤣

The restaurant's philosophy is simple: to make fresh pasta and wine an everyday indulgence. The menu, crafted with 100% Italian Semolina flour, offers a blend of traditional sauces and American favorites. Everything is prepared fresh, with no microwaves or deep fryers in sight. The selection extends to salads, panini sandwiches, and homemade soups.
Ordering at Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen is a breeze. Guests can select their favorite wine while perusing the menu, order at the counter, and then relax as the friendly staff delivers food tableside or packages it for takeaway. The restaurant also caters to families, offering generous family-sized portions for carryout and catering.
