Ormond Beach’s Joe Cavanaugh's Play Bridges Generations

Joe Cavanaugh's "Keepers of the Dream" is a theatrical tribute to Black History Month, bringing together Langston Hughes and John Steinbeck in a fictional meeting that sparks a deep friendship and discussions on social injustices. Set in the late 1930s, the play reflects on the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression through the dialogue between these two literary figures. Supported by the Sister Cities of Volusia County, the play emphasizes themes of brotherhood, societal change, and the importance of understanding. With music from the era and performances by Dove Dupree and Gary Norris, the play is a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for social justice and the power of literature to inspire change.

Local Businesses Eye Opportunity As Daytona 500 Races Delayed Due To Rain

Due to the forecasted rain in Central Florida, the schedule for the Daytona 500 weekend was adjusted, with the Arca Hard Rock Bet 200 moved to Friday night. Despite the weather, fans and locals remained optimistic, taking advantage of the racing that could proceed. NASCAR's flexible ticket exchange policy for weather-affected events ensures fans are accommodated. Local businesses, like Adam's Egg in Daytona Beach, see the weather delay as an opportunity to attract visitors, despite a noticeable decrease in patronage this year. Employees remain hopeful for increased business, ready to extend service hours to accommodate race fans.
