“United Rentals 300” Postponed Until Monday at 11 AM, The “500” at 4 PM
Officials have confirmed that fans holding Saturday grandstand tickets and Hard Rock Bet Fanzone admissions are entitled to attend both the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at 11am and the DAYTONA 500. The 500 race has been rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m., creating the first-ever doubleheader with the NASCAR Xfinity Series race that will take place today at 11 a.m.
The decision to postpone the Daytona 500 to avoid fan inconvenience marks a continuation of NASCAR's proactive approach to weather challenges, a stance that was evident earlier this month when the Clash at the Coliseum was moved up due to forecasted poor weather in Los Angeles. This flexibility was appreciated by fans and participants alike, with Spire Motorsports driver Zane Smith reaching out to fans on social media, offering to meet them despite the rain's interference.
The postponement did not dampen the spirits of those involved, as NASCAR and Daytona maintained several prerace activities, including appearances by celebrities such as Pitbull and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Although Pitbull's concert was canceled, he plans to return next year. Johnson, serving as the grand marshal, and Madison Marsh, the reigning Miss America scheduled to drive the pace car, both expressed positive sentiments about the weekend's experiences despite the weather-induced changes, however, Miss Marsh had to leave Monday morning for other engagements.
NASCAR's weather policy, which allows for ticket exchanges in the event of postponements or rescheduling, underscores the organization's commitment to accommodating fans under less-than-ideal conditions.
The broadcast schedule for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race and the DAYTONA 500 remains unchanged, with coverage on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Suspected DUI Driver Dies After Walking Into Traffic on I-95 in Daytona Beach
A tragic incident occurred on I-95 southbound near LPGA Blvd. in Daytona Beach around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, resulting in the death of a suspected drunk driver, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The sequence of events began when a trooper initiated a stop for a 40-year-old Jacksonville man, suspecting him of driving under the influence. Despite instructions from the trooper to remain inside the vehicle, the man exited and subsequently resisted, leading to the trooper deploying a taser. This altercation on the roadside was brief but culminated in the man walking into the path of oncoming traffic, where he was struck by several vehicles.
Emergency services declared the man deceased at the scene of the accident. The aftermath of this incident led to the closure of the affected lanes for over five hours, significantly impacting Saturday night traffic. The Florida Highway Patrol has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
Costco Opens Doors in Daytona on Thursday, Bringing Unique Design and Broad Services
The first Costco in Volusia County is set to open at OneDaytona on Feb. 22, marking a significant event for the community. The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries and representatives. The store, which has been eagerly anticipated by residents, will offer a range of services, including a unique checkered flag façade and a larger-than-average footprint. The opening signifies not only a milestone for OneDaytona but also a boost for the local economy and a potential draw for further national brand interest in the area.race fans.
The Graand Opening Event is set to commence at 7 a.m., featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m., and the store will welcome its first customers immediately afterward, potentially even before the official opening time of 8 a.m.
