More On Yesterday’s Wireless Phone Outage
Emergency Preparedness Plans Should Include Landlines After Nationwide Service Disruption
A significant disruption in wireless services across the nation, particularly affecting Central Florida occurred Thursday. Starting around 4 a.m., AT&T users experienced service outages, with their phones switching to SOS mode, affecting calls, texts, and even 911 connectivity. This issue wasn't isolated to AT&T alone but also impacted other carriers like Cricket and T-Mobile. By 3 p.m., AT&T announced that service had been restored and apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing their commitment to preventing such occurrences in the future.
This event has underscored the importance of having backup communication plans, particularly for emergency situations. Emergency managers, like Alan Harris, stress the value of having access to a traditional landline, especially for making 911 calls, which can be set up at no cost. The incident has prompted recommendations for individuals to ensure they have alternative means to access emergency services and to keep important contact numbers written down as a precaution against digital service outages.
OOPS! County Chairman Jeff Brower Steps In A Bucket Of Controversy
The Volusia County Council has mandated a review of the council chair's "State of the County" speech before its presentation, following Chairman Jeff Brower's controversial remarks, particularly on beach driving expansion, which were not endorsed by the council. This decision reflects an effort to ensure that public statements align with the council's collective positions and to maintain a unified front after previous instances of discord.
Further complicating matters, Chairman Brower's communication with Governor Ron DeSantis, in which he opposed a proposed fuel storage and distribution facility near Ormond Beach allegedly on behalf of the entire council, has been met with criticism. Council members, including District 3's Danny Robins and District 5's David Santiago, expressed frustration over the misrepresentation of their positions, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and individual opinion.
The council's unanimous vote, with the exception of Brower's dissent, to review future "State of the County" speeches reflects a strategic move to align public messages with agreed-upon council policies and objectives. While Brower defended his approach, stating his intention to highlight personal goals for council consideration, the decision signals a shift towards greater oversight and collaboration in public communications.
Deciphering Whiskers: The Unique Language of Cats and Their Human Companions
Researchers have discovered that cats have developed a unique meow for communicating with humans, a testament to their ability to adapt and manipulate to meet their needs. This discovery sheds light on the broader spectrum of cat vocalizations, including the "chatter" sound, which serves various purposes such as mimicking prey, expressing excitement or frustration, and bonding. Chattering is especially noted in cats observing prey they cannot reach, indicating their hunting instincts and emotional states. Engaging with a cat's chattering can enhance the bond between pet and owner. Despite these insights, the full extent of cat communication remains largely unexplored, with each vocalization hinting at the complex emotional and social world of cats.
