Cyber Alert - Orlando Scam Emphasizes Digital Vigilance Needed

An Orlando woman and her friend each lost $700 due to a sophisticated scam initiated through Facebook Messenger. Dawn Church clicked a suspicious link, purportedly from her son, which led to unauthorized bank transactions. The U.S. Secret Service, involved in the investigation, emphasized the rising incidence of digital hijacking and advised the public to be cautious with links, even from known contacts. Despite temporary bank intervention, the financial loss was deemed a result of a scam, highlighting the vulnerabilities associated with digital communications and financial transactions. Facebook scams are also often perpetrated through emails that look like official Facebook communications asking you to “confirm your password” and the like. NEVER respond to these emails. Password data should only be changed within youth Facebook account accessed in a normal login procedure.

Sensitive Customer Information Leaked in AT&T Data Breach

AT&T has announced a significant data breach affecting millions of its current and former customers, with sensitive information discovered on the dark web. This breach includes Social Security numbers and passcodes for around 73 million people, with data dating back to 2019 or earlier. The source of the breach is currently unknown, and AT&T has launched an investigation.

The company is notifying impacted customers and has reset passcodes for current users, in addition to offering credit monitoring services. Cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt highlighted potential similarities with a past breach, raising concerns about delayed customer notifications and potential legal repercussions for AT&T.

Colorado Man Leads Heartfelt Campaign to Donate Pacemakers to Pooches

A Colorado man, Joe Suchman is on a mission to have heart—quite literally—by urging people to donate their pacemakers to dogs with cardiac issues after they die. With a nod from veterinary experts who cite the safety and efficacy of such trans-species donations, the initiative shines a spotlight on an overlooked opportunity to extend the lives of man's best friend. Research supports the move, revealing that most pacemakers still have ample battery life at the time of their original owner's passing, and there’s overwhelming willingness among humans to donate.

Programs like the one run by MCNH and the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine prove it's more than feasible, having already gifted 41 dogs with second chances. Suchman's campaign not only raises awareness but also outlines how to make these compassionate donations a reality.
