Cruising Crackdown: Florida's Plan to Move Left Lane Laggards To The Right
Governor Ron DeSantis is contemplating signing a bill aimed at prohibiting drivers from cruising in the left lane of highways unless overtaking, a move aimed at clarifying and enforcing existing but ambiguous laws. The proposed legislation, spearheaded by State Sen. Keith Perry, seeks to eliminate confusion by explicitly stating that the left lane on highways with speed limits of 65 mph or higher is for passing only. This effort aims not only to enhance road safety but also to reduce road rage incidents caused by drivers who occupy the left lane without passing. The bill has passed both the Florida House and Senate and awaits the Governor's signature to become law, potentially imposing a $158 fine on violators.
Hinson Middle School Turns Eclipse Into Stellar Learning Experience
Akrisza Kemp-Brown, a science teacher at Hinson Middle School, used the solar eclipse on April 8 as a dynamic teaching tool for her eighth-grade class. George Mijalli, seeking redemption after a failed attempt to view a previous eclipse with a cereal box, joined his classmates in using proper solar glasses this time. The event, aligning with the space unit of their curriculum, allowed students to directly experience what they had learned in class. While Florida only witnessed a partial eclipse, the experience was still a profound one for Kemp-Brown's students, highlighting the importance of the atmosphere and the sun's corona. Kemp-Brown viewed the event as an answer to students' questions about the practical application of their lessons, hoping it would encourage them to share their newfound knowledge with family.

Josh Brown is set to become Riverbend Community Church's new teaching pastor on April 14, replacing Scott Menez who is moving on to mission work in the western USA. Brown, an Ormond Beach native and a longtime member of the Riverbend community, will be the ninth pastor in the church's 68-year history. He brings a wealth of experience from his theological studies and his time as director of Family Ministries at Riverbend. Brown, who met his wife Victoria at Riverbend and has two sons, expressed his humility and honor in serving his home church and hopes to continue its legacy as a Christ-centered institution.
