Florida to Cut Business Rent Tax to 2%

Florida’s business rent tax is set to decrease significantly from 4.5% to 2.0% starting June 1st, following Governor Ron DeSantis’ initiative aimed at economic recovery from the pandemic. The reduction is part of legislation that also includes measures for online retailers to contribute to state sales tax. This is the second tax cut since last year, targeting aid for local businesses competing against bigger chains. Florida is unique in the U.S. for taxing commercial property leases, and the reduced rate will lower costs for businesses across various office space classes.

Security Footage

A gray-haired bandit sporting a blue shirt and denim jeans is on the run after pilfering a wallet from an unsuspecting shopper at the Ormond Beach Dollar Tree. The sneaky swipe occurred at the store located at 1222 Ocean Shore Blvd on April 2.

Deputies have released surveillance footage showing the thief in action as she nabbed a wallet containing not only credit cards but the victim’s driver’s license and social security card. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is on alert and is urging anyone with tips about the denim-clad swiper to come forward and dial 386-248-1777.

Severe Weather A Possibility Today

Central Florida is on alert as a severe weather system from the southeast moves in this Thursday, particularly affecting Marion County between 10 and 11 a.m. The storms, while losing strength over time, could still produce significant wind gusts and possibly a tornado as it moves southeast over our area. Rainfall is expected to be manageable, with less than an inch predicted, minimizing the risk of flooding.

Walk Your Way to a Stronger Heart- Exercise Tips for Every Age

Regular physical activity is crucial for heart health, and it's never too late to start. Engaging in exercises like brisk walking for 30 minutes daily can significantly enhance heart function and reduce the risk of heart disease. Active individuals are likely to have better cardiovascular health compared to those who are sedentary. Exercise benefits include calorie burning, lowering blood pressure, reducing harmful LDL cholesterol, and increasing beneficial HDL cholesterol.

To begin, assess your fitness level and choose activities you enjoy, whether alone, with a trainer, or in a group. Gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts to avoid injury. Ensure your regimen includes aerobic exercises, strength training, and flexibility workouts. Consult a doctor before starting any new exercise program, especially if experiencing any unusual symptoms. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, and vary your routine to keep it enjoyable.
