Ormond Beach to Rule on Controversial Tomoka Oaks Project

Tomoka Oaks Golf Property

Ormond Beach's City Commission is set to finally address the controversial rezoning of the former Tomoka Oaks golf course area to "Single-family low density" after two previous postponements. The decision, scheduled for April 16 at City Hall, involves converting the 147.94-acre site from its current Planned Residential Development zoning. The proposal, opposed by both the Planning Board and city planners, seeks to revert to the site's pre-2006 R-2 zoning, potentially allowing more homes than the 272 originally proposed. The developers previously faced rejection last November and are now contending with a community wary of overdevelopment.

Volusia County to Continue Beachfront Restorations During Turtle Season

In Volusia County, construction will continue on beachfront properties during the upcoming turtle nesting season, thanks to approval from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This decision, crucial for hurricane recovery efforts, mandates protective measures for sea turtles, including daily wildlife surveys and restricted construction pathways. The initiative, which mirrors last year's successful season, supports both public and private repair projects necessary for restoring hurricane-damaged areas and maintaining safe beach access for the summer.
