Residents of Local Community Rattled By Intruder

Several residents of the Aberdeen community off North Clyde Morris Blvd were awakened in the early morning hours by their various alarm devices of an intruder in the area from about 1am to 4:30am. Some Ringtm doorbell cameras and other video systems alerted the owners of activity at their homes. In one video the shirtless man is seen peeking in a kitchen window (above) and apparently trying the front door. Another resident reported the same individual trying the doors on a car and truck parked in the carport and reportedly sitting in a chair located there as well.

Several residents called Ormond Beach police who responded, and after patrolling the area were unable to locate the man. Police say residents in the North Clyde Morris area should be alert to this activity. Anyone with information on this individual should contact the Ormond Beach Police Department at (386) 248-1777

Declining Interest Marks 2023 NASCAR Season, Culminating in Least-Watched Finale

In a season marked by dwindling interest, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series concluded with historically low viewership figures. Averaging 2.86 million viewers across major networks such as FOX, FS1, NBC, and USA Network, the series experienced a 5% drop from the previous year's 3.03 million viewers, setting a new record for the least-watched season. This decline surpassed the previous low of 3.00 million viewers in 2021. When including special events like the preseason "Clash" at Daytona and the All-Star Race, the average viewership slightly increased to 2.87 million, yet this still represented a 6% decrease from last year.

The downward trend in viewership was noticeable as early as April, following the Bristol Dirt Race, with a significant 15% drop. The season's final race, held in Phoenix, only garnered a 1.6 rating and 2.92 million viewers on NBC, a number that slightly rises to 3.03 million when including streaming data. These figures not only made it the least-watched Cup finale on record but also the least-watched fall Phoenix race since 2019.

Veterans Day-Let’s Honor Our Vets

On today, November 11th our community joins the nation in observing Veterans Day, a solemn tribute to the men and women who have donned the uniform to serve our country. This day, originally commemorated as Armistice Day marking the end of World War I, has evolved into an annual homage to all American veterans, acknowledging their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to the ideals of liberty and justice.

The cessation of hostilities of the Great War on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, heralded a time of peace and remembrance. It's a historical moment that reminds us of the price of peace and the valor required to maintain it. Veterans Day is not just a federal holiday; it's a national pause—a collective, heartfelt salute to those who have served.

Yet, the recognition of our veterans' valor and commitment should not be confined to a single day. These brave individuals have woven the fabric of our nation's freedom with their unwavering spirit and profound sacrifices. Their stories of heroism and the legacies they have left behind are lessons that enrich our lives daily. As such, honoring our veterans is a year-round commitment that transcends ceremonial observances.

We can express our gratitude in various ways: engaging with veterans in our community, supporting veteran-owned businesses, or volunteering with organizations dedicated to veterans' welfare. Each act of kindness, each moment of understanding, and each opportunity provided reflects our enduring respect and appreciation.

So, today let us renew our commitment to remember, honor, and serve our veterans every day. Their service extends beyond the battlefield; it's etched into the everyday freedoms we enjoy. Let's ensure our gratitude is just as enduring.

To our veterans, we owe a debt that is both profound and perennial. Today, on Veterans Day, and on all days, we stand in respect and gratitude for your service.

Loyal Dog Survives as Colorado Hiker Found Deceased After Two-Month Search

Rich Moore, a 71-year-old hiker from Pagosa Springs, Colorado, was found deceased nearly seven weeks after he went missing. He and his dog, Finney, had failed to return from a hike up Blackhead Peak on August 19. A local hunter discovered Moore's body on October 30 in the Lower Blanco drainage basin. Remarkably, Finney, a 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, was found alive beside him, demonstrating extraordinary loyalty. The following day, search and rescue teams were airlifted to the site to recover Moore and Finney. The dog received veterinary care and was later reunited with Moore's family. The Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office reported no signs of foul play in Moore's death. The mountain's challenging terrain, characterized by steep trails, is a potential factor in the incident. Blackhead Peak, part of the San Juan National Forest, has a standard trail that is about three miles long to the summit and is known for its steepness. 🐶
