Ormond Beach Joins Volusia County in Emergency Response Simulation

Ormond Beach city officials teamed up with Volusia County for a multi-agency crisis drill facilitated by FEMA, focusing on a simulated building collapse scenario akin to the tragic 2021 Surfside disaster. The training, emphasizing emergency coordination and communication, involved key local leaders who practiced their roles in handling a potential real-life crisis. This valuable exercise aimed to strengthen interagency relationships and enhance overall community response strategies for future emergencies.

From Seabreeze to the Big Leagues: Mitzo and Smith Ink College Deals

Seabreeze High’s outgoing football coach Lester Davis celebrated the college signing of two standout athletes, Chandler Mitzo and Landon Smith. Mitzo will join FIU's track and field team and attempt to walk on to the football team, while Smith committed to playing football at Aurora University. Both students excelled academically and athletically, each maintaining a 4.0 GPA in their final year. Their choices were influenced by personal connections and the welcoming environments of their chosen schools.

The Story Gets “fyshier” At Fysh Bar & Grill

Apparently Sid Sethi, owner of Fysh has had other problems in Florida restaurant scene. According to a June 30, 2023 article in Restaurant Magazine, the founders of The Twisted Tuna in Port Salerno, Kenny and Rachelle Gibbs, saw their former licensee Sid Sethi remove their branding from his Port Salerno restaurant, now set to become Fysh Bar and Grill. The pair originally launched the brand in 2014, seeing great success and eventually licensing it to Sethi in 2018, an arrangement that later soured, leading to a lawsuit in 2020. Despite the rebrand, the Gibbs are closely watching as their original concept continues to influence Sethi's new venture. Amidst ongoing financial disputes and court proceedings, the culinary conflict between the original creators and the current operator remains heated. According to Kenny Gibbs, Sethi had been delinquent on seller-financed loans since early 2020 and despite multiple settlement nibbles, the financial crumbs offered fell short of expectations. Fysh Bar and Grill closed abruptly on December 31, 2023. The restaurant was recently re-branded as “Two Georges Dockside Grille” by the Scaggs family, owners of another restaurant by the same name in Boynton Beach.
