"Daytona Beach Airport Upgrades Runway Lighting to LEDs in FAA-Funded Project
Daytona Beach International Airport is upgrading its primary runway lighting to LED lights, with funding primarily from the FAA. The project, lasting 30 days, will improve safety and sustainability. During the work, the main runway will be closed, affecting flight patterns. The upgrade enhances safety while reducing energy use and maintenance needs.
Ormond Beach Secures State Funding for Central Park Flood Project
Ormond Beach has secured $5.35 million in funding from the Florida Legislature for a major stormwater project in the Central Park area. This initiative, part of a $16 million effort to address potential flooding, includes the construction of a new pump station and force main along Fleming Avenue. The station aims to mitigate flooding risks for hundreds of homes while enhancing water quality and preparation for severe weather.
The project is especially important given the history of flooding in Central Park, where a significant storm in 2009 brought 30 inches of rain over two and a half days, causing extensive damage. Since then, Ormond Beach has made several improvements, including connecting the park's lakes and upgrading pump stations. The new pump station is designed to pump 45,000 gallons per minute, increasing the city’s capacity to respond to storms.
