Daytona Beach Hoteliers Oppose Proposal to Expand Beach Driving

Volusia County Council is set to discuss the reintroduction of beach driving in a key section of Daytona Beach, facing opposition from local hoteliers concerned about safety and environmental impacts. The proposal aims to boost beachside businesses by reversing a driving ban implemented in 2000. While some business owners support the move, others, along with environmental advocates, caution against the potential dangers to wildlife and the overall visitor experience.

The council's discussion, scheduled for tonight, follows a historical 1996 decision to eliminate beach driving once sufficient parking was available, a measure enacted to manage the balance between accessibility and environmental stewardship.
