Granada Bridge Was Closed Tuesday Morning For HazMat Cleanup

The Granada Bridge in Ormond Beach was closed mid-morning on Tuesday following a collision involving a car and a pool cleaning company truck. Emergency response teams from the Ormond Beach Fire Department, Ormond Beach Police Department, and a Volusia County hazmat crew were dispatched to the site. The hazmat team worked to neutralize hazardous chemicals that had spilled from the pool cleaning truck, following Department of Environmental Protection protocols.

Security First Announces Significant Insurance Rate Cuts Amid Legislative Changes

Security First Insurance Company has announced a reduction in their Signature Home and Renters insurance rates by 5.2% and 5.9%, respectively, effective by August 2024. This move, revealed at their 2024 Storm Response Showcase attended by CFO Jimmy Patronis and CEO Locke Burt, reflects savings from legislative changes and improved service efforts. The combined savings from rate reductions and legislative benefits are expected to range from $260 to $350 annually for customers.

Officials Stress Importance of Beach Safety in Volusia County Ahead of Tourist Season

As National Beach Safety Week begins, Volusia County officials are emphasizing the importance of safety on their beaches. The county, known for its tourism-driven economy, highlighted the Beach Safety division's role with several initiatives, including posting safety tips online and conducting lifeguard tryouts. Last year, the team executed over 2,000 rescues, showcasing the critical need for vigilance on the beaches.
