Mayor Bill Partington of Ormond Beach received the Mayor John Land Years of Service Award for his 20 years of service to the city. Ormond Beach celebrated the exceptional contributions of local artist Antoinette "Toni" Slick at the Tuesday City Commission meeting. Toni, whose artistic journey began under the influence of her mother, has become a significant cultural figure in the community. Her vibrant and inspiring works have not only enhanced the local art scene but have also deeply touched those around her.
In recognition of her substantial impact, Mayor Bill Partington proclaimed May 21, 2024, as a day dedicated to honoring Toni's artistic achievements. The community is invited to join in acknowledging her dedication and passion for the arts, which continue to enrich and enliven Ormond Beach. Let's celebrate Toni Slick's remarkable legacy and her enduring influence on the beauty and spirit of our town!
Ormond Beach Commission Debates Future of Dog-Friendly Beach Amidst Community Divide
The Ormond Beach City Commission deliberated on the continuation of Volusia County's dog-friendly beach pilot program amid mixed public feedback. While supporters, led by Daytona Dog Beach Inc., highlighted the program's success and community engagement, detractors, spearheaded by former City Commissioner David Schecter, cited lax rule enforcement and disruptions to traditional beach use as reasons for its termination. The commission considered focusing enforcement efforts outside the pilot area rather than ending the program, recognizing its success within its designated boundaries.

Irvington Seafood Recalls "Crabmeat: Jumbo, Lump, Finger, and Claw Meat"
“Irvington Seafood of Irvington, AL, is recalling its 1 lb. packages of "Crabmeat: Jumbo, Lump, Finger, and Claw meat" because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women”
