Ormond Teen Overcomes Severe Illness to Attend Graduation, Thanks to Hospital Staff’s Support

Eli Havens, a senior at Seabreeze High School, attended his graduation ceremony with the assistance of his medical team from Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital despite severe complications from Crohn's Disease. After being hospitalized with a life-threatening condition on April 12, Havens continued his studies from the hospital and underwent physical therapy to prepare for the event. On graduation day, he was transported to the venue by the same team that admitted him, and his brother Caleb helped him across the stage to receive his diploma. The school principal and the entire community praised his perseverance and resilience. (Ormond Observer) ($)

NASA is gearing up for the launch of the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, which will carry Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Scheduled for today at 10:52 a.m. EDT, the launch is a key component of NASA's Boeing Crew Flight Test. Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will travel aboard the Starliner to the International Space Station. This mission will test the spacecraft’s systems, aiming to certify the Starliner for regular crewed missions. Extensive coverage of the launch and subsequent activities, including a postlaunch news conference, will be available on NASA's multimedia platforms. (NASA.gov)

Think It’s Hot? Global Warming Reaches Record High in 2023, Human Activity Main Culprit Study Finds

A 2023 study indicates that Earth is warming at an unprecedented rate, primarily driven by human activities, particularly increased fossil fuel use. While the warming rate has reached a new high, it does not suggest an acceleration of climate change beyond what was previously projected. The study, leveraging United Nations-endorsed methodologies, highlights the urgent need to curb emissions to avoid surpassing the critical 1.5 degrees Celsius warming threshold within the next four and a half years. Researchers stress the importance of immediate and sustained climate action to prevent catastrophic environmental and humanitarian consequences. (Click Orlando.com)

Hurricane Poll Results

Comments:

- "Depends on strength, direct hit etc."

- "Would consider if category 4 or 5. Too often the weather people cry 'wolf', and the impact to my area is minimal. After 37 years with little to no damage, the hassle of leaving far out paces the decision to stay."

- "I have pets and a whole house generator."

- "It’s not that easy to try to evacuate at age 80 with a disabled husband and 2 cats."

- "I have a basement, plus my home is my business. So I would stay to protect the property."

- "Always leave when a warning is given."

- "Depends on how close & strength. Any cat 4 or 5 we are out of here."

- "If I think hurricane is too threatening, then I would leave, otherwise I will wait out the storm."

- "Depends on strength and possibility of hitting my area."

- "If it's right at us and a 3 or higher we would leave."

- "It depends on the category and how close to where I live that it may hit. I've weathered the storms before and although it may have been inconvenient, I felt better knowing that anything I could handle would be taken care of right away rather than later."

- "Have evacuated. Have stayed. Depends on intensity and location."

- "We have 3 dogs, so evacuation would be difficult."

- "How close and how strong would determine."
