A Platinum Milestone - Local Couple's 70-Year Journey Through Marriage

Courtesy Photo

Jimmy and Mattie Kirk celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Paradise Pointe Assisted Living in Ormond Beach, a milestone reached by only 1% of couples. They met in 1952 and married two years later. Over the decades, they raised four sons and now enjoy a growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Despite challenges, including health issues and the tragic loss of a son, the Kirks attribute their long-lasting union to love and compromise. They continue to inspire their family and community with their commitment to each other. (Ormond Observer) ($)

Strict Burn Ban Issued in Volusia County as Wildfire Risks Intensify

Volusia County has instituted a countywide burn ban effective early Thursday due to severe drought conditions, banning all unpermitted outdoor burning including bonfires and yard debris burning. While some outdoor cooking devices are allowed, strict safety measures are advised. The ban comes as a response to multiple wildfires this year, with residents encouraged to adopt preventive measures like clearing vegetation and maintaining clean roofs. Updates on the ban will be available through the County’s online platforms, and violations could result in penalties. (See Full Details Here)

Eco-Friendly Lighting Upgrade at Daytona Beach Airport Enhances Runway Safety

Daytona Beach International Airport has completed a major runway lighting upgrade three days ahead of schedule. The project replaced older lights with energy-efficient LED lights and involved extensive wiring replacements, significantly enhancing runway safety and reliability. The LED lights are expected to last 14 years and will cut down on energy use and maintenance costs. Funded mostly by the FAA, the project also predicts substantial environmental benefits, reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to the yearly output of several dozen vehicles. (Volusia County)
