Ormond Beach Gallery Sets the Stage for Local Artists
Photo: Art Spotlight Facebook Page
Art Spotlight, an Ormond Beach art gallery, has become a cultural beacon through its mission to "Create, Collaborate, Elevate." Founded by Thays França and Teri Althouse, the gallery supports artists of all levels with themed events each month: a day for creation, a week for collaboration, and an exhibition start each month for elevation. Integral to the local art scene, the gallery enhances community engagement and showcases new talents, particularly during the monthly Art Walk. Located at 67 W. Granada Blvd., the gallery maintains an active social media presence, providing updates and open calls for artists on its Instagram and Facebook pages. (Ormond Observer)

Florida Maintains Lead in U.S. Shark Bites, with Volusia County at the Epicenter
Florida, is the epicenter of shark bites in the U.S., Volusia County continues to record the highest number of incidents, solidifying its reputation as the "Shark Bite Capital of the World." The University of Florida's International Shark Attack File shows that surfers, who make up 42% of last year's victims, are particularly susceptible due to their frequent presence in risky waters. Safety tips to avoid shark encounters include avoiding waters with baitfish, not wearing shiny jewelry, and swimming in groups. Despite precautions, accidents occur, as evidenced by Chris Pospisil's 2023 encounter, where he suffered severe foot injuries from a shark bite while surfing. (Daytona News-Journal)
