Upcoming SpaceX Launches: Astra 1P and Starlink Missions

On Tuesday, June 18, at 5:35 p.m. EDT, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Astra 1P satellite from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This mission will deploy the satellite for Luxembourg-based SES, which will provide satellite TV channels across Germany, France, and Spain.
For those interested in watching the launch, live coverage will be available on floridatoday.com/space starting about 90 minutes before liftoff. The coverage can also be accessed through the free FLORIDA TODAY app, available in the App Store or Google Play.
In Volusia County, located just north of Brevard County, you can enjoy excellent views of the launch along the beach, particularly when looking due south. Popular viewing spots include New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, and Ormond Beach. New Smyrna Beach, with its 17 miles of sandy shores, offers a unique combination of natural beauty and small-town charm, making it a favored spot despite its "Shark Bite Capital" reputation.
SpaceX is also preparing for another Falcon 9 launch to deploy a batch of Starlink internet satellites. The launch date is yet to be announced after several attempts on June 12, 13, and 14 were aborted seconds before liftoff. This mission, also from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral, will follow a northeast trajectory.
As with the Astra 1P launch, live coverage for the Starlink mission will be available on floridatoday.com/space and through the FLORIDA TODAY app.
Embry-Riddle Lands Boeing Engineering Facility-400 New Jobs Possible

Photo: Volusia County
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Boeing have announced a new partnership that will bring 400 high-paying jobs to Volusia County. Under the agreement, Boeing will operate an engineering facility in the Cici and Hyatt Brown Center for Aerospace Technology on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus.
The center, which has been under construction for the past two years, will be open for business this fall. It will be aptly named Boeing Daytona Beach.
Employees at this state-of-the-art center will perform engineering work for Boeing’s military aircraft programs and advanced technology capabilities. Boeing plans to begin hiring for 200 high-paying jobs this year and forecasts doubling that over the next few years.
A leading global aerospace company, Boeing develops, manufactures, and services commercial airplanes, defense projects, and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries. (Volusia County)
Remote Work and Mental Health - Examining the Impact and Benefits
The debate over remote work versus office work continues, with employees showing mixed preferences. Companies like Shopify and Airbnb thrive with remote models, while Disney and Amazon revert to pre-pandemic norms. Surveys show remote workers report slightly higher mental health issues but benefit significantly from flexible schedules. Flexibility emerges as the key to employee well-being. Why Is Orange Juice Getting Expensive? Orange Juice Prices Soar as Climate and Disease Ravage Global Supplies

The global orange juice market is under significant pressure due to disease and extreme weather affecting major producers. Brazil, the largest exporter, faces its worst harvest in 36 years due to flooding and drought, while Florida's orange production has plunged by 62% after Hurricane Ian. Citrus greening disease continues to ravage crops, with Brazil and the U.S. heavily impacted. This scarcity has driven prices up, with U.S. orange juice concentrate prices rising 42% in a year. Consumer demand is dropping, and some markets are experiencing shortages. The situation traces back to the 2005 arrival of the Asian citrus psyllid in Florida, causing citrus greening disease. Climate change is also worsening conditions, with extreme weather events further reducing yields. (FOX35.com)
