Neighborhood Scoop and Fern and Fable Inspire Young Readers with Summer Challenge

Courtesy Photos

Neighborhood Scoop Ice Cream and Boba Tea has partnered with Fern and Fable Books to promote summer reading among local children. Kids who read seven books from June to August will receive a free small cup or cone at Neighborhood Scoop and a free book at Fern and Fable. Reading logs are available at both locations. Co-owner Amanda Frick, formerly of the Ormond Beach Elementary School media center, was inspired by her experiences there to create this initiative with Rayna Dunlop of Fern and Fable. The challenge has already excited many children, some of whom are reading more than usual for the rewards. Frick hopes the collaboration will enhance local community spirit and draw attention to the new bookstore. (Ormond Observer)

Local Metro Among Nation's Least Expensive Living, But Housing Still Unaffordable

The Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach area has been ranked as the 10th least expensive place to raise a family by Creditnews Research. However, the report reveals that no housing market in the U.S. is affordable for median-income households. Families in this metro area need to earn at least $97,025 annually to cover basic expenses. The report contrasts this with the most expensive metro areas, where families need $140,000 or more to get by, with San Jose, California, being the most costly. (Daytona News-Journal)

The adoption package includes flea and tick preventatives, dog food, spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations, and a starter treat kit, valued at over $500.
