New Diamond Fund Launched to Aid Volusia County's Elderly Population

The Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties have granted over $50,000 to the Council on Aging of Volusia County, as announced in a press release on Friday. Following the Good Samaritan Society's shift in focus to the Midwest, the society sought CF UWVFC's help in finding a local nonprofit to take over its services in Volusia County. The Council on Aging was selected, and the donation enabled the establishment of the Diamond Fund to support the county's elderly.

Courtney Edgcomb, president and CEO of CF UWVFC, emphasized the fund's anticipated positive impact. Recent data shows that 52% of seniors in Volusia County are financially unstable. Heather Haroldson, director of Programs at the Council on Aging, noted that the Diamond Fund will provide emergency assistance to vulnerable elderly residents, ensuring they can stay in their homes and bridging the gap between crisis and stability.
