The 'Oysters for Ormond' initiative aims to install 600 vertical oyster gardens on private docks to improve Halifax River's water quality. Led by Capt. Chuck Gleichmann and local residents, the project involves deploying recycled oyster shells to attract larvae that will grow into live oysters, each capable of filtering 50 gallons of water daily. Volunteers have already assembled 248 kits, with more workdays planned. The initiative not only aims to enhance water clarity but also increase biodiversity. Saharan Dust Plume to Arrive in Gulf of Mexico and Florida by Weekend

NASA

A significant plume of Saharan dust is expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico and Florida by next weekend. This is good news. The Saharan Air Layer (SAL), a dry and dusty air mass, inhibits tropical development by depriving systems of moisture. The SAL is most active in June and July, making tropical wave development in the Atlantic’s Main Development Region challenging. The dust's arrival may bring colorful sunsets and hazier skies to Florida. (Fox35.com)
