New Footage Shows Aftermath of Volusia Beach Patrol Incident

Volusia County Sheriff

A new video shows the aftermath of a Volusia County Beach Patrol sergeant accidentally running over two teens on Daytona Beach on Memorial Day. The sergeant, who had just exited a marked emergency lane, hit the sunbathing teens. Body cam footage shows the sergeant explaining the incident to deputies. Jessica Juarez, mother of one of the injured teens, criticized the sergeant's professionalism and emphasized safety concerns. The sergeant received a citation for careless driving, and Beach Safety is reviewing the incident to determine if disciplinary action is needed. Juarez is thankful her daughter could inform her about the incident. (Fox35)

David Hettel and Glenn Steinberg, surfing friends from the late '70s in Hawaii, have reunited after 44 years. Steinberg moved to Palm Coast in April and searched for Hettel, eventually finding him through his website. Their last meeting was in 1980 at the Honolulu airport. Their friendship, built on a shared love for surfing and art, quickly rekindled. They recently spent time together reminiscing and plan to surf again. Both have pursued artistic careers, with Hettel becoming a notable local artist in Ormond Beach. Their enduring bond highlights the rare nature of friendships that can survive decades of separation. Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway and License Plate Established in Florida

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two bills honoring Jimmy Buffett by designating Florida’s A1A as “Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway” and creating a “Margaritaville” specialty license plate. The highway bill renames A1A from Key West to the Georgia border, while the license plate proceeds will support the SFC Charitable Foundation. Buffett, who passed away on September 1, was a significant cultural and environmental figure in Florida, co-founding the Save the Manatee Club and popularizing the Florida Keys through his music and brand.
