Three men were arrested on felony littering charges after a receipt in an 860-pound pile of trash in Pierson led to their identification. Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered the trash blocking the entrance to the Lake George Wildlife Management Area.
Deputy Darcy found a Winn-Dixie receipt in the trash, which listed purchases of tuna and spring water, items also found in the debris. Deputies traced the receipt to the store, where surveillance footage identified a suspect and vehicle. Further investigation led to the identification and interviews of multiple suspects, resulting in a confession. The defendants, James Alan Dunne, 51, Connor James Dunne, 21, and Kyle Richard Hayes, 24, admitted to dumping the trash to avoid the inconvenience of proper disposal. They are now charged with felony littering, underscoring the importance of responsible waste management. (Volusia County Sheriff)

New Chief Vows Reform After Holly Hill Police Scandal

Residents expressed cautious optimism, with some hoping for a positive change under Williams' leadership. Florida Residents Gain New Protections Against Rising Mobile Home Lot Rents

A new Florida law, HB 613, addresses the issue of large corporations buying mobile home parks and raising lot rents. Co-authored by State Rep. Paula Stark, the legislation was inspired by residents' complaints about deteriorating amenities and steep rent hikes. Effective July 1, the law allows mediation for rent disputes, offering residents a means to challenge unfair increases. Stark highlighted the trend of corporate ownership, with companies like Homes of America owning many parks. She plans further measures, including potential caps on annual rent increases and more assistance for displaced residents, aiming to ensure fair and affordable living conditions.(ClickOrlando.com)
