The Rockefeller Beach Ramp in Ormond Beach Will Close Temporarily

Starting Monday, July 8, Volusia County will temporarily close two beach access points for repairs.

The Riverview Boulevard beach access and parking area in Daytona Beach will close to facilitate permanent storm damage repairs. This work is expected to take approximately three months. During this period, beachgoers can use the recently opened Sun & Surf Park, which features ADA-accessible facilities. Restrooms are available at Glenview Boulevard beach access, located one block south of Riverview Boulevard.

The Rockefeller Beach Ramp in Ormond Beach will also close temporarily for about two weeks as the vehicular ramp is rebuilt. This ramp is the northern access point of the dog beach. Beachgoers can instead use the River Beach Drive access for pedestrian access and the Cardinal Drive ramp for vehicular access.

Residents and visitors can download the Volusia Beaches app for the latest information on open beach access points, lifeguard tower locations, and beach and weather conditions. (Volusia County)

Longtime Ormond Beach Eatery Reopens as Southern Kitchen

Southern Kitchen, formerly Gourmet Kitchen, reopened on June 12 at 1930 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 11, under new owner Tom DeCarlo. DeCarlo, after a 35-year career in the car dealership industry, transitioned to the restaurant business inspired by a conversation with a customer. He closed the purchase of Gourmet Kitchen on his birthday, May 24.

DeCarlo, whose family has a background in the restaurant industry, has infused the menu with his passion for barbecue, adding brisket and pulled pork, with future plans for ribs and smoked chicken. He aims to maintain the restaurant’s traditional offerings while introducing new items like avocado toast. The rebranded Southern Kitchen reflects DeCarlo’s affinity for southern home cooking. The restaurant operates from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays, remaining closed on Tuesdays. (Ormond Observer)

Jennifer Miko’s Equestrian Adventures of Florida

Equestrian Adventures of Florida offers a unique and breathtaking experience: horseback riding on the beach. Founded and operated by Jennifer Miko, this business is about more than just horse rides; it’s about creating unforgettable memories and fulfilling lifelong dreams.

Jennifer Miko's journey to becoming a business owner is as inspiring as the rides she offers. A lifelong animal lover, Jennifer began riding horses consistently at 35, discovering a profound connection with these gentle giants. Her passion for horses and the joy of riding led her to establish Equestrian Adventures of Florida, a venture that combines her love for animals with her desire to bring joy to others.

Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Temple University in Philadelphia and a master's in elementary education from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. She taught sixth-grade science at Ormond Beach Middle School for seven years before transitioning to a 13-year career as a pharmaceutical representative for Merck and Company. Despite these varied experiences, Jennifer found her true calling in running her horseback riding business, humorously referring to herself as a "professional poop picker-upper on the beach."

The unique selling point of Equestrian Adventures of Florida is the chance to ride horses along the beautiful beaches of Florida—a bucket list item for many. Few places in Florida offer this experience, and Jennifer has worked closely with Flagler County to make it possible for both locals and tourists. The rides begin at a public beach approach, where Jennifer provides both general and individualized instruction. Riders learn about the personalities and habits of their horses before embarking on a short trail over the dunes and onto the beach.

Community involvement is a significant part of Jennifer's business ethos. She actively cleans up the beach during rides and has participated in several Make-A-Wish rides for children. Additionally, she donates gift certificates to various charities, further embedding her business in the community.

Equestrian Adventures of Florida has garnered significant recognition, featured on "Florida on a Tankful," Fox 35 News with Dave Martin, and various travel and local magazines. Jennifer's dedication and passion have earned her the top Tripadvisor award for the past four years, solidifying her business as a must-visit attraction in Florida. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a ride with Jennifer is an experience that promises to be both memorable and magical.

You can visit Jennifer’s website at EquestrianAdventuresFl.com or give her a call at (386) 846-8386 for reservations.
