Celebrate Safely - Florida’s Fireworks Laws for the Fourth of July

As the Fourth of July arrives tomorrow, Floridians are preparing for festivities, including fireworks. Safety is crucial, as 2022 saw 11 deaths and around 10,200 injuries from fireworks incidents, per the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Florida law generally prohibits noisy or projectile fireworks, but exceptions exist for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Independence Day, allowing adults 18 and over to use store-bought fireworks without a waiver.

Residents should also check local ordinances and HOA rules. Permitted fireworks include those that emit sparks upon burning and do not contain explosives, such as snakes, smoke devices, and party poppers. Prohibited fireworks include firecrackers, skyrockets, and Roman candles. By following these guidelines, everyone can enjoy a safe and festive Independence Day.

Devastating Damage in Carriacou & Grenada, Beryl Headed For Jamaica Today

Hurricane Beryl damage on Carriacou

Carriacou..Hurricane Beryl, the season's first Category 5 hurricane, has left a trail of catastrophic damage on Carriacou and Grenada. Tyrell Bay's coastline is ravaged, with yachts, sailboats, and ships wrecked beyond recognition. Homes are devastated, leaving countless families displaced.
The local hospital has suffered severe damage, drastically limiting its care capabilities. Communication towers are heavily damaged, isolating communities and hampering rescue efforts.
The scale of destruction is immense, with both islands facing a long and challenging road to recovery. Outside help is desperately needed to assist the residents in recovery.

Mandatory Condo Assessments Spark Financial Strain for Ormond Residents

Condo owners in Florida are facing steep costs to meet the state’s engineering assessment deadline, with some in Volusia County paying over $100,000 each. This mandate, introduced after the 2021 Surfside condo collapse, applies to buildings over three stories and 30 years old.

Residents like Parks Huffstetler and Janet Stone of SurfSide Club South in Ormond Beach have been hit hard by the unexpected fees, forcing some to sell or return to work. The assessments, due by December 31, 2024, include structural inspections and proof of fully funded reserves for future maintenance. Many associations lacked the budget for these costs, shifting the burden to individual owners.

The financial strain is further compounded by rising insurance rates and hurricane repairs. Property manager Krista Goodrich observed increased condo market inventory due to owners' fear of assessments. Despite the prohibitive costs, these assessments are deemed essential for building longevity. (ClickOrlando)

Jennifer Miko’s Equestrian Adventures of Florida

Equestrian Adventures of Florida offers a unique and breathtaking experience: horseback riding on the beach. Founded and operated by Jennifer Miko, this business is about more than just horse rides; it’s about creating unforgettable memories and fulfilling lifelong dreams.

Jennifer Miko's journey to becoming a business owner is as inspiring as the rides she offers. A lifelong animal lover, Jennifer began riding horses consistently at 35, discovering a profound connection with these gentle giants. Her passion for horses and the joy of riding led her to establish Equestrian Adventures of Florida, a venture that combines her love for animals with her desire to bring joy to others.

Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Temple University in Philadelphia and a master's in elementary education from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. She taught sixth-grade science at Ormond Beach Middle School for seven years before transitioning to a 13-year career as a pharmaceutical representative for Merck and Company. Despite these varied experiences, Jennifer found her true calling in running her horseback riding business, humorously referring to herself as a "professional poop picker-upper on the beach."

The unique selling point of Equestrian Adventures of Florida is the chance to ride horses along the beautiful beaches of Florida—a bucket list item for many. Few places in Florida offer this experience, and Jennifer has worked closely with Flagler County to make it possible for both locals and tourists. The rides begin at a public beach approach, where Jennifer provides both general and individualized instruction. Riders learn about the personalities and habits of their horses before embarking on a short trail over the dunes and onto the beach.

Community involvement is a significant part of Jennifer's business ethos. She actively cleans up the beach during rides and has participated in several Make-A-Wish rides for children. Additionally, she donates gift certificates to various charities, further embedding her business in the community.

Equestrian Adventures of Florida has garnered significant recognition, featured on "Florida on a Tankful," Fox 35 News with Dave Martin, and various travel and local magazines. Jennifer's dedication and passion have earned her the top Tripadvisor award for the past four years, solidifying her business as a must-visit attraction in Florida. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a ride with Jennifer is an experience that promises to be both memorable and magical.

You can visit Jennifer’s website at EquestrianAdventuresFl.com or give her a call at (386) 846-8386 for reservations.
