A 12,500-square-foot commercial building is set for development at 1730 Plantation Oaks Blvd. in Ormond Beach, following a unanimous recommendation from the Ormond Beach Planning Board to amend the local Planned Residential Development. The building, planned by developer Parker Mynchenberg, will include office, retail, and restaurant spaces on the first floor, with climate-controlled mini-rental storage units on the second floor. The estimated project cost is $7 million. Mynchenberg, who also oversees developments in nearby Archers Mill and Fountain View, expects residents from these areas to utilize the new storage facilities. At a neighborhood meeting on June 10, no objections were raised, though one homeowner later expressed concerns about a lack of communication regarding the commercial zoning. Despite this, Planning Board member Al Jorczak supported the project, noting the increased need for storage in the expanding residential area. (See Full Story at Ormond Observer)$

My Safe Florida Home Program Pauses Applications After Funding Depleted

The My Safe Florida Home program has paused new applications after quickly exhausting its latest $200 million funding allocation from the state’s General Revenue Fund, received on July 1. The initiative, designed to assist homeowners with hurricane-proofing improvements, allocated all funds within two weeks, prompting a suspension of initial inspection applications.Remaining funds will be used for home-hardening grants and final inspections for those already in the system. Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis' office confirmed that while new initial inspections are on hold, the program continues to operate with grant funding available for previously approved applicants. The phased application process prioritized low-income homeowners aged 60 and above, extending to other groups over the summer. Despite its funding challenges, the program is considered a success. The potential for additional funding remains uncertain.. (See Full Story at ClickOrlando.com)

Surprising Uses for Dryer Sheets Beyond the Laundry Room

Have you ever gazed at your pile of dryer sheets and wondered if they have more potential than just softening clothes? You're in for a treat! Here are some creative and surprising uses for dryer sheets that go far beyond the laundry room. Whether using new or used sheets, these tips can save you money and bring a fresh scent to your home.

1. Eliminate Static Electricity from Your Television Screen
Static electricity often attracts dust and lint to your TV screen. Gently wiping your screen with a used dryer sheet can remove static and keep it dust-free. The anti-static properties will also help repel future dust buildup.

2. Polish the Faucets
Both new and used dryer sheets can make your faucets sparkle. The fabric's texture and gentle abrasiveness help remove water spots and fingerprints. Simply rub the faucet with a dryer sheet for a brilliant finish.

3. Freshen the Air in Your Home
Place a new dryer sheet in a drawer or hang one in your closet to keep your clothes smelling fresh. The fragrance acts as a subtle air freshener, perfect for enclosed spaces.

4. Prevent Thread from Tangling
For sewing enthusiasts, running a threaded needle through a new dryer sheet before you start sewing can eliminate static cling on the thread. This trick prevents tangling and makes your sewing projects smoother.

These tips demonstrate the versatility of dryer sheets, making them a handy tool to keep around the house for more than just laundry day.
