Leadership, Growth, and Housing: Key Issues in Volusia County Chair Race

On July 17, Citizens For Ormond Beach hosted a candidates forum for the Volusia County Council Chair race. Incumbent Jeff Brower and challengers Don Burnette, Deb Denys, and Randy Dye debated key issues such as growth management, beach usage, and the relocation of a proposed fuel farm. Brower, emphasizing his fiscal responsibility, linked growth to water quality and tax issues. Burnette focused on managing growth and improving infrastructure. Denys highlighted her leadership experience and job creation efforts, while Dye emphasized community service and retaining local youth for the workforce. All candidates supported extending the ReGrow the Loop program for land preservation. They also discussed fiscal responsibility in the county budget, with priorities on emergency services and tax relief. Affordable housing solutions included ongoing initiatives, public-private partnerships, and promoting home ownership. The primary election is on August 20, with a potential runoff in November if no candidate wins a majority. (See Full Story at Ormond Observer) $
