Volusia Council Weighs Heavy Industrial Zoning Over Ormond Beach Fuel Terminal Proposal

Volusia County Council discussed potential changes to I-2 heavy industrial zoning regulations in response to controversy over a proposed fuel terminal near Ormond Beach. Residents have strongly opposed the site due to its proximity to residential areas and a youth sports complex. County staff suggested tightening zoning rules, which received support from the County Chair. No formal vote was held during the workshop, but changes could be voted on soon. Boat Stolen from New Smyrna Beach Home; Suspect Vehicle Identified

Deputies in Volusia County are investigating the theft of a 21-foot NauticStar boat from a home in New Smyrna Beach. The boat was taken early Tuesday morning, with the owner noticing its absence after work. Authorities have identified a tan Ford Transit Connect van as a possible suspect vehicle and are requesting any information from the public to help recover the stolen boat. Contact the Volusia County Sheriff's Office at 386-423-3301 with tips. The sheriff’s office also encouraged trailer owners to use trailer locks, and possibly employ cameras and Air Tags to protect their property.

Ormond Beach Approves Nearly 4% Property Tax Rate Increase for Upcoming Year

Ormond Beach has approved a nearly 4% increase in the property tax rate for the next fiscal year, setting the rate at 4.1610 mills. This rise will result in an average $62.21 increase for homeowners with a $250,000 property value. The increase supports an $130.78 million budget, funding new police vehicles, sports complex upgrades, and additional city staff. The commission is also exploring financial aid for the PACE Center for Girls and a potential new stadium project but seeks more details before finalizing these decisions. Welcome Uncommon Grain!

Uncommon Grain, a new bakery and café, has opened at 11 W. Granada Blvd. in downtown Ormond Beach. The bakery will offer a variety of fresh breads, pastries, artisan sandwiches, and eventually smoothies. Founded by Sergio Faenza and Brandon Sheppard, who also own nearby restaurant 63 Sovereign, Uncommon Grain aims to enhance local food options and revitalize a space that has been vacant since Cakery Creations closed. The bakery’s design features an open, light-filled atmosphere and includes a mural depicting historic downtown scenes from the early 1900s.

Operating hours will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off. Faenza and Sheppard hope to provide unique breads and ethnic-inspired dishes, creating a welcoming spot for daily visitors and locals alike. Visit the Uncommon Grain website at TheUncommonGrain.com
