Florida Driver’s Licenses to Get New Security Feature Starting July 31

Starting July 31, Florida will implement a new requirement for driver’s licenses and ID cards, mandating the inclusion of at least four randomly generated numbers. This change, announced by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), aims to enhance security and protect personal information.

Despite the new numbering system, the format of licenses and ID cards will remain the same. New numbers will be issued to individuals renewing or replacing their licenses or IDs, both in person and online, as well as to first-time applicants. The new number will stay the same unless the driver’s last name changes. Renewals can be completed online for eligible customers, while others will need to visit an office for various reasons, including photo updates or first-time applications.
