Pedestrian Killed in Crash at Hand Avenue and Nova Road
A 74-year-old man was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Nova Road on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at approximately 6:25 a.m.
The pedestrian was transported to Halifax Medical Center as a trauma alert but later died from his injuries.
The vehicle was traveling northbound in the right lane on Nova Road and had a green traffic light. The pedestrian was crossing against the pedestrian crosswalk signal, heading eastbound across Nova Road. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The driver of the vehicle did not see the pedestrian until it was too late to stop. The driver immediately pulled over, contacted 911, and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
“This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of safety on the roads, whether you’re a driver or pedestrian,” said Police Chief Jesse Godfrey. “Every one of us has a role in preventing such accidents, and it’s essential to remain vigilant and responsible whenever we're on the road.”
For Pedestrians:
1. Use Crosswalks: Always cross at marked crosswalks and obey signals.
2. Be Visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in low light.
3. Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like phones when crossing the street.
For Drivers:
1. Watch for Pedestrians: Be vigilant, especially at intersections and crosswalks.
2. Obey Speed Limits: Drive within the speed limit and adjust for conditions.
3. Stay Focused: Avoid distractions and keep your attention on the road.

From Slow Performance to Crypto-Jacking: Signs Your PC Might Be Hacked
A sudden ransom note on your PC screen is a clear sign of a hack, but not all computer attacks are so obvious. For less apparent issues, you need to be more observant and informed. Running a quick scan with your antivirus software is a good first step; if it detects a problem, you're likely in the clear.
However, when antivirus programs miss malicious code and your Windows system starts behaving oddly, it’s time to investigate further. Here’s what to look for:
1. Slow Performance Symptom: Your system becomes unusually sluggish, with programs loading slowly and CPU usage spiking to 100 percent.
Harmless Causes: High CPU usage can occur when a legitimate program performs a resource-intensive task, such as video compression or image processing. Older PCs may struggle with HD video playback. Additionally, an old Windows 10 bug can falsely show 100 percent CPU utilization, while in reality, the CPU isn't fully engaged. Another possibility is that a legitimate program or Windows tool is using excessive CPU resources.
Dangerous Causes: High CPU usage might signal a ransomware attack, where malware encrypts your files and then demands ransom. The encryption process can significantly burden your CPU. Another concern is crypto-jacking, where malware uses your PC’s resources to mine cryptocurrency, like Monero….continued online
