Bridging the Digital Divide - The Tech Tutor Celebrates Two Years of Empowering Volusia County Residents

Scott Spearin: Courtesy Tech Tutor website

Scott Spearin, founder of The Tech Tutor in Volusia County, has spent the past two years helping nearly 1,500 people navigate the complexities of modern technology. After witnessing a customer’s panic over her new smartphone, Spearin left his job to address the widespread need for personalized tech education. His business offers one-on-one lessons, group sessions, and online support, focusing on everything from basic smartphone use to transitioning from paper to digital systems. Recognized this year with the Quality Business Award for Best Tutoring Service in Edgewater, Spearin’s work extends across the county, with popular sessions like "Tech Tuesday" at Ormond in the Pines and classes at local senior centers. Spearin’s mission is to replace fear with confidence, using "love, patience, and kindness" to guide people of all ages through the digital world.

Daytona Honors Petty Legacy as Family Leads Start at Coke Zero Sugar 400

The Petty family, a cornerstone of NASCAR history, will start the engines at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 this weekend at Daytona International Speedway, marking 75 years of the family’s racing legacy. Richard Petty, his son Kyle, and nephews Ritchie, Timmy, and Mark will give the iconic command. The Petty legacy at Daytona began with Richard’s father, Lee, who won the inaugural Daytona 500 in 1959, and Richard himself holds a record seven Daytona 500 victories. The family’s contributions to NASCAR also include Maurice Petty's engine-building prowess and Kyle Petty’s success in the NASCAR Cup Series. The event will feature "The King’s Hat" exhibit, commemorating Richard Petty’s impact on the sport. The weekend begins with the NASCAR Xfinity Series Wawa 250 on Friday and concludes with the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday, the second-to-last race before the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
