Snook Season Opens On The East Coast Of Florida
AI Generated Photo
Fishing for snook in Florida is a treasured pursuit for anglers, especially along the Treasure Coast. Known for their fierce fight and delicious taste, snook are a prized catch, but harvesting them comes with strict regulations. As the snook season kicks off, here are five critical things every angler should know.
First, snook seasons vary by coast. On Florida's Atlantic side, snook season is open from September 1st to December 14th and then again from February 1st to May 31st. On the Gulf Coast, the seasons are different, so be sure to check local regulations before heading out.
Second, there's a specific size range for keeping snook. Only snook that measure between 28 and 32 inches are legal to harvest, ensuring the preservation of this species by protecting both juvenile and larger breeding fish.
Third, anglers are allowed to keep only one snook per day. This daily bag limit is strictly enforced, so make sure you measure carefully before keeping your catch.
Fourth, you must have a valid saltwater fishing license and a snook stamp to keep a snook. These are available for $17 and $10, respectively, unless you qualify for an exemption.
Finally, remember that state law prohibits the sale of snook. The only way to enjoy this delicious fish is to catch it yourself—or befriend a successful angler!
Juvenile with Gun Disrupts Mainland-Cocoa Football Game
A high school football game between Mainland High School and Cocoa High School in Daytona Beach was halted Friday night due to a significant police response. The interruption occurred after a juvenile was caught attempting to enter the stadium with a firearm. Security measures at the venue identified the weapon, leading to the juvenile fleeing the scene. Law enforcement quickly responded, detaining two suspects and continuing to search for a third. After ensuring the situation was secure, the game resumed, with Mainland ultimately losing 51-0 to Cocoa.
