Ormond Beach Welcomes First Watch in Former Peach Valley Café Space
First Watch Website
A new First Watch restaurant is expected to open in Ormond Beach, replacing the Peach Valley Café location that closed after Labor Day. The new restaurant will be located at 185 E. Granada Blvd., on the beachside, and will feature a 5,000-square-foot space with seating for 145 people inside, along with an outdoor patio. While Peach Valley's mainland location will continue operations, the new First Watch aims to open its doors before the end of 2025. The First Watch chain, based in Bradenton, Florida, was first established in California in 1983 but moved its headquarters to Florida in 1986. With over 538 locations spread across 29 states, First Watch has become a favorite for breakfast, brunch, and lunch dining.

Ormond Beach Man Arrested After Knife Attack on 17-Year-Old
An Ormond Beach man, RJ Phifer, 34, has been arrested following a knife attack that left a 17-year-old boy with a severe facial wound. The incident occurred on Wednesday night near Sunny Palm Drive. Phifer, who was apprehended at the scene, faces charges of aggravated child abuse.
Body camera footage from the responding officers shows Phifer dropping a knife during his arrest. According to the police, Phifer acknowledged possessing the weapon, saying, "Let me drop my knife."
The attack was reported by the teen's grandmother through a 911 call, in which she expressed confusion over the motive and described a five-inch cut on the boy's face.
The teen was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover, though the injury near his nose has resulted in considerable facial damage.

International Coastal Cleanup Returns to Volusia County
On Saturday, September 21, the 39th annual International Coastal Cleanup will take place across the globe, including in Central Florida. Volusia County has organized 25 sites for volunteers to remove trash from beaches and waterways, continuing the effort to keep the coastline clean and safe for wildlife. This initiative, led by the Ocean Conservancy, is expected to draw over 1,100 local volunteers to participate in Volusia alone. Last year, more than 6,000 pounds of trash were collected in the county, underscoring the importance of these efforts for the environment.
One local resident, Denise Mueller, has been actively cleaning beaches for years and believes it’s important to preserve these areas for future generations. Volunteers can sign up via EventBrite, though anyone is welcome to bring their own supplies and join the effort.
