First Responders from Volusia, Flagler Counties Join Hurricane Recovery Efforts

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, first responders from Volusia and Flagler counties were deployed to assist affected communities in Florida's Taylor and Dixie counties. Hurricane Helene struck the Big Bend area on September 26 before sweeping through the Southeast, causing widespread damage. On September 27, Volusia County sent a joint Emergency Response Team to Taylor County, equipped for search and rescue operations, including water rescues, and prepared to stay for up to 14 days. Simultaneously, Flagler County dispatched resources to both Taylor and Dixie counties, with Flagler County Fire Rescue supporting fire operations in Dixie County and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office providing assistance in Taylor County. Many areas remain without power as crews continue to assess and address the damage. Local officials stressed the need for coordinated efforts to support communities in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Another Phone Scam-Ormond Beach Woman Scammed, Bank Card Stolen in FBI Impersonation Scheme

A 77-year-old woman from Ormond Beach was scammed into leaving her bank card under her doormat after a caller posing as an FBI agent claimed her card had been compromised. The scammer told her that the card needed to be collected for inspection, and she complied. When a man arrived and took the card, she confronted him, but he reassured her by posing as the FBI agent mentioned in the call. Days later, the woman was alerted by a Publix store about a $900 purchase she hadn’t made. After contacting her bank, she discovered that the card had been stolen and that someone had attempted to withdraw $30,000 from her account, though the cash advance was fortunately denied.
