Biketoberfest Kicks Off in Daytona Despite Hurricane Aftermath

AI Generated Image

Daytona Beach’s 32nd annual Biketoberfest proceeded as planned, despite lingering damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Attendees, many of whom were impacted by the storms, showed resilience, gathering along Main Street for the festival’s opening day. Clear skies and the familiar roar of motorcycles set the stage for the event, though some local businesses noted slower-than-usual traffic. The overall visitor turnout is expected to be lower than typical, with many prospective attendees still recovering from hurricane-related challenges across the Southeast. Yet, optimism remains for a successful weekend, as many travel from distant states to support the local economy and partake in the beloved tradition. Weather conditions for the remainder of the festival are predicted to be favorable, offering some respite from the recent storms.

Well Water Testing Fees Waived in Volusia After Hurricane Milton Flooding

AI Generated Image

Following Hurricane Milton’s flooding, the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County has waived fees for private well testing to help ensure water quality in the affected areas. Flooding can introduce contaminants like waste and debris into wells, raising health concerns. Residents can pick up free water sampling kits at health department locations in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Orange City. Once samples are collected, they should be returned with the resident’s contact details, and test results are typically available within 48 hours. The fee waiver applies to wells impacted by the flooding, but those testing for new construction clearances will still need to pay the standard fee. More information is available through the health department by calling (386) 624-0483 or by emailing [email protected]

Ormond Beach Mayor Bids Farewell After 21 Years of Service

After 21 years of service to Ormond Beach, Mayor Bill Partington concluded his final City Commission meeting on October 15 with an emotional farewell. Elected in 2003 and serving four consecutive terms as mayor since 2016, Partington expressed pride in his time leading the city, calling it a privilege. At an earlier State of the City address, Deputy Mayor Harold Briley praised Partington’s dedication, presenting him with a gavel and clock to commemorate his service. Partington’s legacy includes advocacy for home rule, support for local projects, and efforts to preserve the city’s natural beauty. With his term as mayor ending, Partington is now running for the Florida House of Representatives, continuing his commitment to the community. As a final act, Partington presented keys to the city to his colleagues, expressing gratitude for their support. Commissioners wished him well, acknowledging his fair and respectful leadership.
