Ormond MainStreet celebrated its 29th anniversary on Monday, Oct. 21, reflecting on nearly three decades of service to the community. Executive Director Becky Parker, who was recognized for her 10 years with the organization, outlined the nonprofit’s goals for the upcoming year, including expanding public art projects like murals and a sculpture tour, launching a new website with a community calendar, and growing the Ormond Beach Farmers Market. Five new board members were installed, bringing a range of expertise to the 21-member board. Parker’s leadership and commitment to the community were praised, and she was surprised with a gift: the original rendering of a mural being completed downtown. Parker began with Ormond MainStreet in 2014 and became executive director in 2022. Under her leadership, the nonprofit has become a key force behind preserving local culture and fostering economic growth.
Ormond Man, Daytona Woman Die in I-10 Crash
A 65-year-old Ormond Beach man and a 43-year-old Daytona Beach woman were killed in a crash on Interstate 10 in Baker County on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred just after 1 a.m. as the man drove a van eastbound near mile marker 322. After veering off the road, the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate, leave the roadway again, and collide with a tree. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have not yet released their identities.
Unpredictable "Pink Cocaine" Contains a Dangerous Cocktail of Drugs

Photo: Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor in New York
"Pink cocaine," a recreational drug often called "tusi," is causing concern due to its misleading name and unpredictable composition. Despite its nickname, the drug rarely contains cocaine and is typically a mix of substances like ketamine, MDMA, methamphetamine, and opioids, dyed pink with food coloring. Joseph Palamar, a drug trends expert at NYU Langone Health, explains that users often don’t know what’s in it, making it dangerous. The term "tusi" might reference 2C-B, a hallucinogenic drug from the 1990s, though modern batches typically don’t contain it. The primary risk of pink cocaine comes from users expecting stimulants but ingesting ketamine instead, which can cause disorientation, hallucinations, and serious health impacts. Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard seized pink cocaine in drug busts off the coasts of Mexico and Central America, though it is also mixed locally by U.S. dealers.
